I know it's still early, but it seems like so far that Bowden wasn't so stupid after all with the Wilkerson-Sorianno trade.

Wilkerson 260 OBP, 329 SLG
Sorianno 378 OBP, 632 SLG

In fairness, here's their career numbers:
Wilkerson 362 448 SLG
Sorriano 321 OBP 503 SLG

Bowden seems to like to build his teams around power, and it's not that bad of an idea if you aren't going to contend in the immediate future. Power and a good bullpen (another Bowden strategy) leads to a lot of exciting come-from behind wins. Makes the game exciting if you are a .500 team or so.

Of course, there's the possiblity that Bowden knew something was bad with Wilkerson and pawned him off on Texas. He's done that before in the past.

Bowden knew that Sorianno wasn't going to sit out all year, he was pretty much forced to accept LF and make the best of it.

The other arguement that this was a bad trade was because Sorianno was due for free agency at the end of the season. Looking at Wilkerson's service time, it appears he's eligible in 2 years. So that is a trade off, but the Nationals will get a draft pick if Sorianno walks. Of course, there's always the possiblity they could extend Sorianno as well.

It's possible at the end of the year, that Texas still comes out ahead, but I wanted to make a point that Bowden wasn't a total moron for making this trade as some suggested. Sorianno has been a great catalyst for them at the leadoff slot so far.

But you've also left out that Termel Sledge was included in the deal, as well as prospect P Armando Galarraga. Galarraga could end up being the Edwin Encarnacion of the deal, an after thought project that turns into a monster.

Sledge was also later flipped in a package for Adam Eaton and Akinori Otsuka.

And Wilkerson is still a year younger than Soriano.

And Wilkerson is still a year younger than Soriano.

You brought up good points regarding the other players, but the one year age difference really doesn't matter. Both Wilkerson and Soraino are in the prime of the their careers, and probably won't be with their current clubs as they age.

Wilkerson has a shoulder problem, plus doesn't cost as much.

Plus Sledge was part of the trade that brought Texas Adam Eaton.

That said 18 games doth not make a season.
