Here comes a loss. I knew it was coming. Can't win with awful pitching, horrible defense, and a manager who think Dave Williams is a great pitcher. Any fool with a brain could see that Williams was going to get rocked in the 6th inning.

Perhaps we should simply change OBM's name to "Drama Queen".

How are people satisfied with a guy who goes out and allows 4 runs and 9 hits in 5 IP in a park that unabashedly favors pitchers?

Quit rationalizing and apologizing for Dave Williams. He's awful, and the only reason why we have won any of his starts is because this is a phenomenal offensive club.

No, but it allowed him to consider bringing in Weathers in the 8th if needed, without worrying about having to pinch hit for him in the top of the 9th.

But Phillips was the main guy in the Colon trade. Even Reds fans know this because Colon was suppose to come to the Reds but ownership turned down the trade because of salary, so the Indians stepped in. Phillips was the main player in the whole trade.

The National announcers may not have been in Montreal. THey may be new, but they need to know the history of the team.

Ladies and gentleman, I present to you your 14-7 Cincinnati Reds. Off to their best start since 1994.

Personally, I was kinda hoping they'd go into the tank early so that I could quit following them closely and concentrate on studying for the bar.

Oh well...this too will pass, but until then, I'll take it while it lasts.

Here comes a loss. I knew it was coming. Can't win with awful pitching, horrible defense, and a manager who think Dave Williams is a great pitcher. Any fool with a brain could see that Williams was going to get rocked in the 6th inning.

You just might be the Tony Womack of Psychics.

Good win - we are beating the teams that we should be beating - Nats, Pirates, Marlins, Brewers.

I'm really waiting for this weekend - I know its April and all, but after "get-away day" tommorrow - 5 game homestand with the Astros & Cardinals.

YOu are right. It will see just where we are standing with the big dogs. I am worried about the Cardinals because it would appear Lizard and Williams will be in line to pitch and Williams got lit the last time he faced ST. Louis.

Plus he was touching 87/88 with his fastball tonight.

Really? He was hitting 87/88?

Now, that may not be gas, but - for Williams, a vast improvement and possibly reason for hope. Hope that he may yet improve upon that 9+ ERA. Hope that he may yet be able to use an off-speed pitch as an out pitch because it doesn't so closely resemble his fastball. Hope that we didn't deal Sean Casey away for a glorified fast-pitch softball outcast.

Why do the Pirates use the 3rd base dugout?

Not sure...I went to a Reds game at PNC last year. Of course, I bought tickets on the third base side, only to find out I was surrounded by Pirate fans when I arrived (including my sister!!!).

I thought I was going to get killed the first time Griffey was up. He sent a flyball to the warning track...I jumped out of my seat and yelled...then I looked around...Pirate fans were staring at me...I forgot where I was.

But, I had the last laugh, as the Reds won 7-3.

Nope, The Reds/Indians never had a deal on the table, never had the goods to get Colon.

Also, I am really (and I hate to say it) worried about the legitamacy of baseball in Washington. True, the RFK location isn't the best location, but at somepoint, the Nats need to win. And win soon. I don't think the motto of Washington: First in War, First in Peace, and Last in the National League is going to be something that will be tolerated.

I think Baseball in Washington is a must. I think that baseball can do a lot for a "national-type" team to cheer for. I think the heart of the government can now have a break at the "National Pastime" that a Pro Hockey Team or a Pro Basketball Team cannot bring to the table.

But, I worry about the viability of Washington baseball. I hope baseball does not drag their heels on this franchise. It is not fair to drag down Washington again.

I mean, c'mon, where else could they go. Portland? ;) Norfolk? There's no place else...but contraction.

Alright....Williams apologists....name five (5) 5th starters who are worse than Dave Williams.

Go ahead. 5.

I don't know about #5's per se, but here are some pitchers worse than Williams:

Joey Devine, Braves 63.00 ERA

Zach Day, Rockies 10.80 ERA
Kyle Lohse, Twins 11.57 ERA
Dewon Brazelton, Padres 13.86 ERA
Jeff Suppan, Cardinals 9.00 ERA
Victor Zambrano, Mets 9.64 ERA
Seth McClung, DRays 10.90 ERA

Yep. Nothing quite like deluding yourself.

But look how many posters felt that Harang stunk, that Guillen couldn't amount to much. That Arroyo was nothing better than a 5th starter.

Lopez???

Weathers????

The list is long with players that most on the board thought should be released and wouldn't amount to anything. And then contributed.

Aurilia??? Hatteberg, with a .450 OBA should, in the eyes of some, be hitting 8th or 9th.

Baseball is a marathon, not a sprint.

Beware of small sample sizes. Players are never as bad (or a good) as a small sample size indicates.

Williams is not a very good pitcher, that is certain. But he's been a league average pitcher for awhile, and there's no real reason he can't be a league average pitcher for us. Maybe he won't be, and will continue to stink. But he might begin to pitch better. He pitched better today than his last 2 starts. He pitched well enough for us to win on a night when we had average offense (for us). I'm thankful for that. And yes, I'll cheer that Dave Williams pitches better next time out. And hope, even if the odds suggest he won't.

Because Harang became a pretty good pitcher. As did Arroyo. And few gave them much hope a few years ago.

Cool. And I've got a name for you...and it's not Drama Queen. ;)

I think Falls City Beer/flyer and I have exchanged roles. I've become quite the pessimist lately while it seems flyer and FCB, usually two guys who some label as negative posters(I don't, I see them as realists), have become somewhat more optimistic.

But seriously, whenever my teams start out hot, I get my hopes up and expect to win everynight. When/if the Reds start losing more often and fall out of the race, you won't hear me complaining about the losses because I will have come to expect them by then.

DC will be fine once they get a real owner in here. There is virtually no marketing of the team and they had nothing but bad press all post season. The DC council messed around with the stadium deal and nearly lost the team. Bowden made some terrible deals and made the team worse than last season. Any good baseball fan knew this. MLB won't be moving this team because they put in too much time and effort in getting this new stadium deal and they will draw well as the DC area is over 5 million in population.
