Mesa suspended 4 games for throwing at Vizquel; Morris, Righetti finedApril 28, 2006

NEW YORK (AP) -- Colorado Rockies (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/teams/col/) pitcher Jose Mesa (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/4143/) was suspended four games by Major League Baseball on Friday for intentionally throwing at San Francisco shortstop Omar Vizquel (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/4306/).
Mesa threw at Vizquel's head during the eighth inning of last Saturday's game at Denver. Unless appealed, the suspension is scheduled to begin Friday night against the Florida Marlins (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/teams/fla/).
Giants pitcher Matt Morris (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/5784/) and pitching coach Dave Righetti were fined undisclosed amounts for their actions during a game the following day. Morris was fined for intentionally throwing at Colorado's Matt Holliday (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/7311/) in the first inning. Righetti was fined for throwing his pitch counter onto the field and yelling at umpire Travis Reininger after being ejected.

I have a distinct feeling this won't be the last we see of Mesa vs. Vizquel. IIRC, Mesa's hit Vizquel each of the last 3 times they've faced.

That seems rather lenient for a repeated, premeditated act.

That's ridiculous! Depending on which games he and/or his management choose, he won't even miss a start. Not even a slap on the hand in my mind.

Way to go MLB... that's some punishment for a guy who really needs an anger management course. Why don't you just wait until he hurts Omar?

He's a reliever

Ooops! Why on earth did I think he was a starter.

Well, I guess that's a little better but still not much more than a slap on the wrist.
