• Yavapai (Ariz.) CC infielder Milton Loo, a ninth-round draft-and-follow of the Reds last season, has battled his own injury issues with elbow soreness. An examination this week cleared Loo to play in the posteason for Yavapai, which the National Junior College Athletic Association ranks as the nation's No. 2 JC team. Loo has some irritation in the joint and had been limited to DH duty but was cleared to return to playing third base. Playing in a wood-bat league, Loo has hit .323-5-45 for Yavapai with a team-high 27 stolen bases.

I hope Krivsky ponies up the cash to sign him. This organization needs as much talent as possible, so if you can add a good bat like Loo then you should do it.

Sorry for the stupid question, but what exactly is a "draft and follow"?

It's when a team drafts a player from high school or junior college and the player doesn't sign with your team and signs with a junior college. Then you have until a week before the draft to sign the player.

And Loo has been in this category for two years now. That's not so terribly common.

What's the reasoning behind this? Can he really get a much better deal by playing Juco ball rather than going ahead and getting his professional career underway? Especially for 2 years?

Yes he really can. Two years ago we took him in the 17th round, last year we took him in the 9th round. If he doesnt sign this year, he will be taken even higher I would say. So yes, he can get a much better deal.
