Is there anyway we could ship off Rich Aurilia, or someone for Carlos Silva and an OK prospect?

Silva has been moved to the bullpen because of Liriano and the fact that he has sucked it up this year.

8.80 ERA 1.70 WHIP

The bad:

He gives up alot of hits, doesn't strike out very many batters, and gives up about 25 HRs a year. (Probably would give up 30 or so in our park)

The good:

Doesn't walk anyone... well, hardly. In 2005 he walked only 9 batters(!!!) in 188 IP. In 2004 he walked 35 in 203 IP. Pretty good. He also has had two good seasons in a row.

2004: 203 IP 76/35 K/BB (2.16) 3.37 K/9 4.21 ERA
2005: 188 IP 71/9 K/BB (7.89) 3.39 K/9 3.44 ERA

Even with his horrible start, I think he could put up around a 4.50 ERA. Maybe not? Does it really matter anymore? Our pitching sucks. I think he can outperform Lizard, Dave Williams, and Eric Milton. Anyone know Silva's salary? I think it would be alright to ship Aurilia off for him if the salaries are close.

He'd be someone to target after the Defense gets much better.. :)

He's very similar to Elizardo except he's had a great defense behind him. He would struggle immensely as a Red given the number of balls in play he allows.

Liriano is the guy Id like to see the Reds get, but Silva should be less now that hes been demoted to bullpen.

I just checked out his stats so far this year... 46 IP, 74 Hits, 15 HR, 4 BB, 13 K

If we don't have to trade anyone of any use (i.e., Q, Burns, White, etc) then it is worth a shot. Other than that, stay away...

He pitched very well on MVP 2005 when I traded for him.

Just sayin....

Yeah he has been horrible so far. I think he could be a decent real #4 starter though. Not a #8 or 9 starter like Williams.

Remember when he hit Dunn and Lieberthal tackled Dunn before he could get to Silva?

Wow, I forgot about that. Actually, I was thinking it was a different Silva. Jose Silva, or was that the one who pitched for us.

Well, maybe we can trade for him so that Dunn can get back at him ;)

I really like Silva but have to wonder about his health. I know he had some knee problems last year and maybe he isn't healthy yet. The Twins probably are not too eager to trade him since Liriana will need to be replaced in their pen and Silva has had success as a middle reliever in his career with the Phillies.

If he is available and reasonably priced, I'd take a shot at a sinkerballer who walks 9 batters in 180-something innings.

Any idea what his contract looks like. I wouldn't mind him as #4 or #5 here.....only if his price isn't that bad and the Twins take a similar contract back

Aurilia is way too valuable to this team to trade. He's much needed on offense and defense. Plus, I don't think we need another iffy #4 or #5 starter.

I'd rather have Silva than Joe Mays (see other thread on topic). Talk about the lesser of two evils...

Maybe we could sign both of them to pitch batting practice so we can regain our confidence? ;)
