Coffey is getting seriously overworked. What happens if he gets hurt?
Narron gets fired.

BURNS IS WARMING UP...why wouldn't Burns come in before Coffey?

Narron has lost his mind. Coffey at 9-4? Maybe he is doing this purposely to force Kriv to make a move.

He doesn't even trust a majority of his bullpen to hold a 5 run lead.

That's scary.

I hoped after yesterday Coffey would be made the closer full time but when you are using him with a 5 run lead it is obvious Narron still considers Weathers his closer.

Deno actually overuns that ball he has so much range. Then he drops his glove and throws the guy out at first left handed.

Great win! I'm very happy with it. But I do have a question. I don't mean to criticize or whatever. But why does George Grande insist on calling teams by a name other than their team name? Tonight he kept referring to Detroit as the "Bengals." With Pittsburgh it's the "Buccos" and with St. Louis it's the "Red Birds." What's wrong with the Tigers, Pirates, and Cardinals? Just wondering. I have satellite so it makes it impossible to turn it down and listen to Marty or I would. But, I love the Reds too much let it deter me from watching.

We play the team with the best record in baseball, and St. Louis gets to play the Royals....boy interleague play is so fair. I can't stand it!!:thumbdown We should only play the Indians for 3 games a year...that's it. Rotate home and away.

This experiment has lost it's luster. I bet attendance has droped every year for the last 5 years for interleague play. I don't have stats to back this up, but I say this is true by just watching the games on TV and seeing empty seats.

5. (1) 1-0
6. (1) 1-0

10.(1) 1-2
11. (1) 5-1

Just got back from a night game at the little league yard (also a win, thank you very much) and read the game story and the boxscore and the first question I saw was "what the heck did he bring in Coffey for?" Sorry, GAC, I can think of no reason for bringing him in a game with that score, especially when he brings in freakin' Rick "Gas Can" White the other night when we were only down 2 in the eighth.

Anyhow, glad to see the boys get a big win, looks like the slump is officially over? Also nice to see Claussen improve that WHIP

Loved the Dunn HR. Nothing like a no-doubter from AD when we're up 7-0 with no one on in the fourth. Adam Dunn gets the most meaningless HRs/RBIs ever...

That home run was a thing of beauty. Gone from the moment it left the bat, and really the exclamation point that convinced the majority of the crowd that their time was better spent hitting the "refresh" button on their phones browsers to get score updates on the Pistons/Cavs game.

And come on -- the man went opposite field for a double tonight. I'm sure even a couple folks on Reds.com begrudgingly smiled after that.

woy,

I surmise that Wally must have been hit by a pitch in 1963. How else do you get a BA of .000 (0/7), an OBP of .125 (which logically would be 1/8), and zero walks? :)

I agree that it stinks with the fact that St. Louis is playing the Royals, while we're playing Detroit, but at the same time this could serve as their motivation to end a slump, as well as show critics that they can beat the best team in baseball.

You take 'em when you can get 'em. You make it sound so easy when it's dependent upon a whole lot of things all coming together... the pitcher, the pitch thrown, the game situation, the count, etc.

If you could pick and choose the appropriate AB... well, wouldn't that be wonderful?

PS - no HR is meaningless, especially if the outcome of the game is winning by one run or evening the score to force extra innings, thus giving the team an extra chance to win. Most people think that every run is important, not just those during the late innings in a close game.

IMHO, that was a "meaningless" statement.
