Carlos Zambrano, into the sixth with a no hit bid. The Braves scored in the first without benefit of a hit, Chicago currently ahead 2-1.

Yeah, I was about to start a thread on this to jinx him.

Zambrano's got the A.J. Burnett no-no going.

5 BB's so far from Zambrano.

He walked 4 in the 1st which led to the run. The Braves announcers certainly have done their part, they've been talking about nothing but for the entire half inning.

Red Leader

6 BB's now.

traderumor
05-26-2006, 03:56 PM
He has thrown over 100 pitches and only in the sixth, but I'm sure Dusty won't pay any attention to such a trivial matter

Red Leader
05-26-2006, 03:56 PM
I'm guessing since Francoeur walked earlier in the game, he won't do it again.

No way he walks TWICE in the same game.

Funny you should mention that:

He gets the last out, no-hitter through 6.

Red Leader

He's through the 6th.

105 pitches.

Outshined_One

Zambrano threw a 140+ pitch CG against the Phillies last year to put a stop to a losing streak that was primarily the result of a really weak bullpen.

I wouldn't put that past Baker today.

Red Leader

Freddie Bynum goes deep against Hudson. 4-1 Cubs now.

That should take away any thought Dusty had of pinch hitting for Zambrano until the next time through the order. Zambrano should be clear sailing for at least 2 more IP.

Red Leader
05-26-2006, 04:05 PM
...and Zambrano hits.

105 pitches and going up.

You da man, Dusty. Run that damn team into the ground.

Zambrano's had great stuff today, but he's had a rough time handling it.

Ramirez saves it. Wow.

Red Leader

Betemit, pinch hitting for Hudson, doubles to break up the no-no.

Zambrano will probably stay in since the shutout is still intact.

Jacques Jones loses the ball in the sun for a double. The Cubs are back in town.

Giles singles, Betemit scores. Zambrano in danger of getting the hook.

Outshined_One
05-26-2006, 04:14 PM
Jones went back for it and lost the ball in the sun at the wall.

They didn't have a shutout to begin with since Z walked the bases loaded...and walked a man home. Game's 4-2 with a man on 1st at the top of the 7th, two outs.

I'm predicting the bullpen blows it.

Reds Fanatic

Giles follows that with a single. Zambrano won't even get the win as the game is now tied.

Whoops, forgot the Braves had already scored.

Don't yank him, Dusty. He's a veteran, let him fight through it!

Looks like Zambrano's done with 124 pitches.

Jacque Jones losing the ball in the sun is likely a blessing in disguise for Zambrano's career. If that no-hitter would have continued, Zambrano's pitch count would have soared way past the 124 mark.

I'd wet my pants if Renteria hit the first pitch he saw out and tied the game.
That would be perfect.

Then Dusty could say after the game "I knew I should have left Big Z in."

Awww. Ed Diarrhea grounds out to 2nd.

4-2 Cubs, going to the home half of the 7th.

This game is cracking me up. The Cubs could find a way to lose just about anything at this point. And they've blown this one without even using the Secret Weapon of Woe.

Perez caps the pair of E's by striking out at the hands of the Braves' minor-league free agent closer. Kenny Ray seems to have unseated the ineffective Chris Reitsma.

This is similar to the Cubs of my youth, the ones that just made you cringe.

Just a classic bad Cubs team of old. Good times, let's hope they don't break out of their slump vs the Reds. Wood's pitching on Monday, and has looked quite poor the first 2 times out.

We could get Wood, Maddux and Zambrano.

and we counter with: Ramirez, Claussen and Milton.

I'm not looking forward to that series.
