I've been wondering why Freel hasn't been playing lately, but I think it's a mistake to play him instead of Kearns.

I have been fighting the idea of the swoon ending our season but we need to show some fight. It hurts me that Arroyo can call out the team and the Pirates in the papers and then give up three in the first in a must win. I love Arroyo but we need leaders that follow through. We seem to have a bunch of guys that are too worried about their names being used in the papers and on the radio (not just Griff).

Narron is starting to lose my respect. The Reds simply can not be the Detroit Tigers of old. Not to mention, that the better pitching on the team seems to be "caving" to the fact that they'll be hung with a loss despite the effort.

Thank you Ryan Freel for today's run.At least history won't be made today. If the Reds were shutout today it would've been the only time in history that they would've been shut out at home in a 3 game series. It happened on the road once I believe in 1948 against the New York Giants.

A little too much MODERATOR for my taste. I really very seldom montior or post at ORG anymore.....seems to be the domain of the fantasy team owners and statheads. You really cannot say something just because you think it based on your 40 years of being a baseball fan.

I have made Reds Live my default board and visit here sometimes several times a day.

Just my humble opinion.

I believe there were way too many "Reds suck", trade [insert name here], etc., etc., etc. The game threads were getting way away from the game itself and little to no play-by-play.

It was a legitimate gripe.

On another point....where has the PATIENCE gone? What happened to daring the pitcher to throw you 7 or 8 pitches? Seems that since Narron started screwing with the line up, the patience is gone and lots of early swinging at pitches.....thus, the Reds are no longer making the opposing pitcher WORK.

That, I think, is what has ruined the offense.

I have no issue with moderators warning poeple and even busting into the game thread and saying, "hey, lets get back on the theme." But this game thread is a lot like going to a game to me.....and I have NEVER been at a Reds where there weren't fans saying stuff like, "the Reds suck."

I don't like posters doing this, not at all.....but I believe you have to let people be people, and if a poster gets out-of-hand, you have to warn them....not move the thread so a large group of posters get just left out.

That is what I don't agree with.

So now we have rightspeak and wrongspeak? Did the moderator all graduate from the George Orwell school for editors?

I get really, reallly, really tired of this attitude that you cannot say anything without a bunch of stats to back you up. We all aren't statheads and we all do not subscribe to Baseball Prospectus......

What is wrong with opinion without a bunch of stas behind it? Geez...baseball is still 99% judgement......people who have been is baseball for 50 years still don't buy inot all of the stats and computer stuff? Are they wrong?

The statheads on this board and on ORG have been wrong lots of times. This ridiculous notion that you are only smart about baseball if you can do advanced searches on stat databases is going too far.

I like Reds live BECAUSE there is unfounded opinoin here and WOY or others are not just waiting to stomp on you with some stat search to show (in their opinon) how stupid you are.

I get very tired of of ORG being a place where relaxed banter has been replaced by a constant battle of wits. I enjoy baseball as a place to get away from the information superhighway.

That was a well reaosned post, i dont agree, but well done.

Its not stats, its reasoning that is lacking many times. Or just plain missing or worng facts. I enjoy both sides of the argument but am more apt to listen when someone uses some thought in their posts, even humor.

I also dislike they way some on the ORG jump on others for an opinion if it does not match theirs. It is just as distasteful to me and hence, I hang around Redsline most of the time. In fact, I have said perhapps the ORG should just be by invite only, then those who say they are tored of reading other opinions or trying to make the same arguments, will no longer have to do so.

That being said, its not my board, I contribute my small amount to keep it afloat but let those in cahrge make those decisions. And lastly, good or bad, this board beats the snot out of any other Reds board out there in terms of interaction, information and humor.

We'll leave the brawls to when Wilson comes back. We know he isnt being brought back to pitch, it will be to get plunked and charge the mound.

Again, just one man's opinion.

Please leave me out of your tirades unless I'm here poking you, it would be the decent thing to do.

Essentially r-i-l wants to be able to say that 1+1=blue. That's his right, I guess, but then he doesn't want us to come back and say that, well, no 1+1=2. He just wants us to take his word that 1+1=blue, as it's his "opinion".

M2, sorry, but this seems to be just the knid of response I have been talking about.

1. I never said LaRue started today. He did however start several game s recently against RH starters and Valentin even sat during key AB's in games where Narron could have easily PH Valentin......in those cases, LaRue was virtually 100% in failing to contribute.

2. The stats you use mean absolutely nothing. Most of the Valetin stats have come as a PH.....and at that, the sample size is very small. When Valetin started day-in and day-out when LaRue was hurt, the offense was doing great. LaRue is terrible with a bat and he is an awful catcher IMHO.....he should only be used when it is necessary.

I didn't just start complaining about LaRue this month.....this guy has TWICE AS MANY strikeouts as RBI's.......you think that is acceptable? I don't. Call me stupid, but paying this guy 4 million dollars as absolutely nuts.....but playing him against RH starters is even more over the edge.

Maybe you don't mean it M2, but that seems a bit condescending.

Today's action is counter to what this country and our society stands for. You can try to justify it all you want, but I think the mods made a mistake here.

Seems to me that the under 200's just need to start their own game-thread and keep it up.

I believe you could easily make the arguement that if the ORG boys wanted a game-thread without this stuff, why didn't they just start one in ORG? Hijacking the RL thread was just wrong....period.

Valentin has 57 ABs as a C, 3 as a DH and 13 as a PH, that does not make most of his stats come from being a PH.

IMHO, a strike out is another out, so I dont care about those. RBIs are team dependant and LaRue does have a better OPS with Runners on Base than he does with the bases empty.

Your not stupid certainly, I think LaRue is not worth $4M on this team, given the offensive prowess others in the lineup have. I'd rather see that money invested elsewhere. On a different team however, $4M for Jason LaRue, given his production, is a fair price.

I just got home from the game and here are some random thoughts about what I saw.

1) BA struggled but kept us in the game and found a way to keep it close
2) RA had some very nice defensive plays and one screw up which came at a key moment, which seems to be the story of the reds these days
3) The ump behind homeplate seemed to be horrible. There was a lot of complaining from both the Reds and Dbacks. I couldn't really see the pitches from my seats but there was a lot of griping
4) Narron's freak out did seem to fire the team up. Even the crowd was more into the game after that point.
5) Ross's bunt to get on base in the 8th may be the key play of the game. Hattiburg then drives him him in. Of course he may well have been able to get on with a single but he just went out and got on base.
6) AK gets on base in the 9th on an infield hit. A very lucky hit but not one you normally expect from him (an infield hit vs swinging away). Either way, he found his way to 1B which is another example of just getting on base being important (duh!)
7) The emotion of the team as they mobbed Javi after his HR I think was both based on the excitement of the moment and an expression of "finally". I know that is armchair theripist but the sense of reliefe was palatable.

M2, sorry, but this seems to be just the knid of response I have been talking about.

You mean the kind that doesn't allow you to make stuff up? Talk about fantasy baseball.

1. I never said LaRue started today.

And why let that stop you from taking a gratuitous swipe at the guy? After all, it's what you do.

He did however start several game s recently against RH starters and Valentin even sat during key AB's in games where Narron could have easily PH Valentin......in those cases, LaRue was virtually 100% in failing to contribute.

Larue certainly had himself a bad week at .000/.143/.000. Then again, Valentin was .000/.000/.000. Why not just come right out and admit you've never had a nice thing to say about LaRue? That would at least count as an honest opinion.

M2. The stats you use mean absolutely nothing.

Yes, I can see how irrelevant how a player actually performs against RHPs would be in discussing whether a player should play against RHPs. Clearly it's just fuzzy math keeping us from the greater truth contained in your head.

When Valetin started day-in and day-out when LaRue was hurt, the offense was doing great.

And Valentin had nothing to with it.

LaRue is terrible with a bat and he is an awful catcher IMHO.....he should only be used when it is necessary.

But you've always thought that and you've always been wrong. It's not like anything's changed on that front.

I didn't just start complaining about LaRue this month

True, you've been stalking LaRue for years.

this guy has TWICE AS MANY strikeouts as RBI's

And Javier Valentin had FOUR TIMES AS MANY strikeouts as RBIs in April, the month in which you gave him credit for helping the Reds' offense.

you think that is acceptable? I don't.

I think it's hysterical that you carp about people use stats and then you pick some boneheaded, meaningless stat to hang your hat on.

VCall me stupid, but paying this guy 4 million dollars as absolutely nuts.....but playing him against RH starters is even more over the edge.[/QUOTE]

Except that LaRue has ranked (offensively) among the top 10 catchers in baseball over the past three seasons and he hits RHPs and LHPs equally well for his career (though RHPs better so far this year).

Imagine my surprise when I come home from the game, Reds won, by the way for those of you who were too busy sniping at each other, when I find the game thread filled with posters whining about rep points and sniping at each other, which I mentioned already. Folks, this is not going to continue. For those of you with short memories, complaining about rep points is something that the mods and admins frown upon severely. Nobody gives a crap about how many rep points you have. Seriously, we do not care. Secondly, if you have a problem with someone else, take it private. We have told you people about this over and over again. Now, so you people cannot cause any more mischief on this thread, I am closing it.
