It's June (well almost) which usually means swoon for the Reds.

3 @ Cubs
3 @ Houston
3 @ St. Louis

Could very well make or break this team. What are your expectations for the trip? How do you think we will come out of it?

Any games in our division are important. 5-4 or 6-3 is what I expect if the Reds are truly contenders. Houston and St. Louis are not as good as they were last year, but are still really good teams. The Cubs are just horrible because of injuries and they have not made any trades to help the situation. If we do not pound the Cubs, I will be really disappointed.

I think May has usually been our swoon month.

Mock me (an honest mistake), then skim off my post and start one of your own minutes later...nice.

6-3

Two from each club, though they should sweep the Cubs. I'm holding out on Maddux's start for now.

I think May has usually been our swoon month.

Over the last four seasons May has been better than June. Winning records in 3 out of previous 4 Mays and no winning record in 4 previous Junes. Even last year when may was awful, June was worse.

May June
2002 16-13 10-15
2003 15-13 12-13
2004 18-11 12-14
2005 11-18 9-16

Well said!

- the Cubs are dismal right now (21 losses in May so far; currently 6 in a row).
- the Cards aren't exactly cruising to easy wins (close scoring whether winning or losing) and have struggled a bit offensively; without Pujols to save the day on so many occasions, they'd be in big trouble (they've lost 10 in May so far; 5 by less than a 3 runs).
- the Astros have been putrid over the last month (they've lost 17 games in May so far). SF swept them and every game was a blowout; they lost 3 of 4 to the Nats and 3 of 4 to Pittsburgh.

Granted, the Reds have lost 13 in May, mostly due to sleepy offense and a few key errors. Seven of the 13 were lost by less than 3 runs (3 of those 13 by only one run).

This offense simply can not stay in its current slump for much longer; its too good not to come alive and that event is overdue!

I'm really looking forward to a decent June!

I wouldn't say this serries is make or break but I think it will go a long way to setting us up for a real run at contention or simply comming in over .500 but out of the race. Frankly, after last year I'd be happy with either (although being in the race would be better).

I'd like us to wallop on the Cubs, both for the wins and the fact that it's the cubs. If we could go 2-1 or even stay even with Houston and Cards I'd be happy.

I didn't even read the thread, all I did was read the title and post my comment. Sorry there have just been a ton of double posts lately.

I PMed him and apologized, but i didn't think I was mocking anyone. And me posting to read the board before posting a topic is not the reasont he board would begoing in the wrong direction.

I definitely think that this is the make or break road trip of the season.

Awww come on. This is getting old.

Sometimes we'd all be better off just holding our tongues... it's fairly easy.

Memorial Day Links

Hope everyone has a good Memorial Day. Here's a few things that caught my eye today or over the weekend.

* The Kansas City saga continues to fascinate me for some reason. They've now offered the GM job to Braves assistant GM Dayton Moore, despite the fact that Baird still works there. Moore is supposedly a pretty smart guy, so you'd think he wouldn't want to touch this job, but he's from Wichita so you never know. This is a great column on the whole situation. What they really need is a new owner.

* Wayne Krivksy was on Sports of All Sorts the other night, and someone from RedsZone posted about it as it happened. I found this interesting: "An emailer asked about Clemens, he didn't deny there has been contact. Said they probably couldn't afford him." It's nice to know they tried. !!!(And a quick aside, it's insane how terrible RedsZone has gotten. I go there to find news I missed at other places, and I'm at the point now where I try not to read anything past opening posts because all the petty fighting hurts my head. It's a shame, I used to like the place.)!!!!!!

* This might work.

* A recap and some nice pictures of a Chattanooga game from Redleg Nation.

* This is why JinAZ rocks.

The Cardinals are definitely better than the Reds. They might not have as much power as the Reds, but they have a bonafide HOF'er hitter in Pujols and Larussa has been able to consistently put together lineups that complement Pujols. The fact that the Cards quickly had the Reds in a 4-to-5 game deficit in the standings was enough proof for me. The Astros have the greenbacks to outbuy the Reds to a pennant chase. ;)

I've thought for the past 3 days this was a road trip that could be the "perfect storm." The Cubs and the Astros have been really losing. The law of averages says they are going to win some games soon...that means against us. I hope I'm wrong, but today might prove me right. I hate catching teams on losing streaks.

I would like to be the first to say what a difference a week makes. I think most of us would never have predicted a sweep of the Stros and Cards in series featuring Oswalt and Carpenter.
