TRF has the first pick. I just got off work and will have to go to bed soon, but I plan on getting up around 2:00 to (hopefully) make my pick.

This thread is for our picks. Comments on the draft can go in the other thread.

No worries. There is a negative chance of me drafting a high school pitcher. I made a comment in another thread a few weeks ago that I would rather stick my "package" in a blender rather than watch the Reds select a HS pitcher in the first round of this draft.;)

Is Lincecum a reliever or starter?

Starter. Some feel he will end up as a closer due to his short stature, but I think he stays as a starter. I've heard him compared to Roy Oswalt due to his size, mid 90's fastball, and great curveball. MLB.com thinks the Reds will draft him, which would thrill the hell out of me.

(from Sonsofsamhorn and elsewhere) What Do You Need to Know About Me?- Some scouts and baseball people have remarked that I have the strongest hand/wrists they have ever seen. Where does this come from? The strict schedule of 7 intense workout sessions each week. 3 times a week at 5:30 in the morning and 4 times a week at 8 o'clock at night. I take over 1000 swings a week, which include using my two free periods during the school day to drive to the batting cages and work on my stroke. Yes, I am the baseball equivalent of a gym rat. Because I don't have superior size, I will always have to work harder than my peers to stay on top. This season, I am gaining recognition from those peers. Fellow Texas A&M recruit Clayton Kershaw, who also figures to go in the top 10 picks, calls me the best hitter he has ever seen. This year, my senior season, everything came together. I have been pounding the balls to all fields. I won the Texas 4-A triple crown, batting .676 with 19 HR and 58 RBI. The only other player to do that in recent memory is Texas Rangers rookie, Jason Stokes. Though I have played outfield in high school, many scouts think I will be moved to 2B in the pros. Wherever I play, I will hit.

With the 19th overall pick in the 2006 Amateur Draft, The Florida Marlins select catcher Hyun "Hank" Conger from Huntington Beach HS.

On a side note, here is my writeup on him I did for maverickball.com:

Born Hyun Conger, his grandfather gave him the nickname of “Hank” after the Hall of Famer Hank Aaron. Hank has lived up to his nickname’s billing so far as he is one of the more intriguing power prospects in the draft. The switch-hitting catcher put himself on the map 6 years ago when he hit 34 homeruns for his Huntington Beach Little League team and brought them within 1 win of the Little League World Series. After a weak year defensively his junior year, scouts wondered if he could actually stick behind the plate. With lots of practice with Brent Mayne, he has turned himself into a solid backstop. He showed great footwork, and improved arm strong his senior year and got enough good vibes going with the scouts that he could stick behind the plate in his future. Eventually, Hank may move out from behind the plate to one of the corner infield spots, but at that point, his bat might be worthy of those positions anyway. Still known most for his bat, Hank hit .449 with 11 homeruns, 7 doubles, and 1 triple this season at Huntington Beach HS. Right now, Conger is compared to A’s prospect Daric Barton with more power, but slightly less hitting ability. In all seriousness, where do I sign? The Marlins havent had a legit hitting catching prospect in the minors since Charles Johnson way back in 1992. Sure, Josh Willingham was considered a catching prospect but he only played there because he was blocked at every other position. Last season the Marlins drafted Nevada Wolfpack standout Brett Hayes in the 2nd round but he is more of a Mike Redmond than a Charles Johnson. If Kyle Drabek has already been selected, and assuming Drew Stubbs isnt still on the board, you got to think that the Marlins may take a shot at having a hitting catcher in the system, something they are missing.

Me too. It was literally a case of him being the highest-rated guy left. I figured I wouldn't argue with all the folks who've scouted him and rated him so high. I still rather would have had Antonelli mind you, thought the Reds should have tried to lure him three years ago.

The Orioles with the 32nd pick draft Bryan Morris, rhp, Motlow State (Tenn.) CC
http://www.baseballamerica.com/today...es/261330.html
Couldn't work things out with the Devil Rays last spring but remains under control, and with his stuff (94-96 mph fastball, big, hard curve), he's not likely to re-enter the draft.
http://www.baseballamerica.com/today...ws/261479.html
The Devil Rays selected Morris in the third round out of Tullahoma (Tenn.) High last June, and they eventually agreed on a $1.4 million bonus. But Tampa Bay's former front office twice delayed finalizing the deal, prompting Morris to attend Motlow State (Tenn.) Community College, where his father Ricky is an assistant coach.

Morris' maintained his quality stuff this spring, showing his trademark power curveball and a 90-95 mph fastball with late life. He led Tennessee juco pitchers with a 0.91 ERA and also pulled double duty as a center fielder, a role in which he broke a bone in his left wrist on a headfirst slide. As with Beato, Morris' mechanics and command could use some improvement.

"At the end of the day, we couldn’t reach an agreement," Devil Rays executive vice president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman said. "We wish him well in the future. Now we’re focused on the upcoming draft."

Outstanding Picks bye Doc, it's pretty much what I was considering as far as both picks to this point. I was a bit torn between Stubbs & Kershaw in the 1st rd. as while doing my research the Tigers fans I chatted with had Kershaw, Stubbs and then Hochevar as what they wanted + what is likely in the 1st in that order. I wasn't completely sold on Kershaw that early so I was leaning towards Stubbs and they also wanted a solid C here w/ the 2nd rounder and Ambort is not a bad p/u here.

So good scouting Doc! :beerme:

As an objective member of the Nationals front office, it's my duty to note somethat that the normal Caveat Emperor would never admit: the last two "can't miss" Tulane prospects were, in fact, quite easily missed. Jake Gautreau raked in college, but it looks like he's never going to have much of an impact in the show. Michael Aubrey has been sidelined by injuries and has yet to get on track as well.

Comments: When you start throwing 95 mph, scouts will come. He also has a plus curve. He's shaken off a bout of tendinitis to return to form late. Would be a two-way player if he heads to college.

Diamondbacks in there continuing trend to develop pitchers and fill the rest of the holes thru free agency and trades select. Blair Erickson p uc-irvine
Vital Stats- 6'1", 210, 10/28/1984

What Is My Background?- Although I didn't play a single game in my senior season of high school due to an ankle injury, I was still rated the 51st best draft prospect for the 2003 class and drafted in the 28th round by the Phillies. Why? At the time my 91-93 mph fastball and developed slider were highly rated. As a Freshman at Irvine, I instantly gained national prominence. I became the NCAA leader in saves with 17, and flashed the stuff that had scouts talking the previous summer.

What Do You Need To Know About Me?- Over the last two years, my stuff has become even more lethal The fastball that used to sit in the low 90's now is consistently in the mid-90's. BA rated it as the best in the Big West. My slider which, was considered a solid pitch coming out of high school, is now considered to be a potential out pitch in the majors. Although my control came and went my sophomore year, I had no trouble missing bats. My 13.37 K/9 IP would have placed me 2nd in the NCAA if I had the necessary innings qualifications. Led by my 1.80 ERA, I limited opponents to only 16 hits in the 35 innings I pitched. I am the highest ranked college reliever in this year's draft. And I could see myself getting picked in the mid-teens if a team wants to go cheap.

He's not a pure receiver, but I've grown ill with pure receivers like Dane Sardinha and Miguel Perez who don't have a clue at the plate. Hopefully the Reds get all over a guy like Newton and teach him the finer points of catching.
