LOS ANGELES Jun 6, 2006 (AP) After being shuttered for more than 15 years, the doors to "Pee-wee's Playhouse" are being reopened. The Emmy Award-winning show will get new life on the Cartoon Network's Adult Swim lineup, which will air all 45 original episodes beginning July 10, company officials announced Monday.

"I'd say this is a dream come true," actor Paul Reubens said in a statement.

Reubens, 53, created the bow-tie wearing Pee-wee Herman in 1978 as a member of the L.A.-based comedy troupe, the Groundlings. Known for his big laugh and small suit, Pee-wee gained worldwide fame in 1985 as the star of his own movie, "Pee-wee's Big Adventure," directed by Tim Burton.

The film's success led to "Pee-wee's Playhouse," which originally aired Saturday mornings on CBS beginning in 1986.

In 1991, a year after production wrapped on the final season of "Playhouse," Reubens was arrested in Florida for indecent exposure.

Reubens returned to the big screen with an acclaimed performance in 2001's "Blow."

Oh my god that show was terrifying when I was a kid. But not as terrifying as that Pee-Wee movie.

"Pee Wee's Playhouse" was a mere shell of the edgier, vastly superior "Pee Wee Herman Show", which ran in The Roxy theatre in the late '70s/early '80s. I remember watching it on HBO when I was 9 and thinking how completely and utterly cool it was.

I remember seeing a couple episodes of that show when I was a kid, thinking that it was Pee-Wee's Playhouse, and sitting there in stunned silence.

My son and I watched "Pee Wee's Playhouse" when he was little (he was born in 1988). He used to get me out of bed on Sat. AM to watch it with him. To give you a time frame, he just graduated from HS.

Cowboy Curtis and Miss Yvonne were my faves. Connect the dots, la-la-la.

I remember seeing a couple episodes of that show when I was a kid, thinking that it was Pee-Wee's Playhouse, and sitting there in stunned silence.

It was actually an hour-long special that they ran over and over. And yeah, if you were expecting Pee-Wee's Playhouse, the other version would be quite a shock.

I was the exact opposite. I sat in stunned silence watching the first episode of Pee-Wee's Playhouse, because I was expecting it to be funny and satirical like the other version.

Come on in, and pull yourself up a chair (like Chairry!)
Let the fun begin, it's time to let down your hair!
Pee-Wee's SO excited,
'cause all his friends have been invited (that's you!)
To go wacky, at Pee-Wee's Playhouse!

There's a crazy rhythm, comin' from Puppetland (what that?)
Dirty Dog, Cool Cat, and Chicky Baby are the Puppet Band (yeah!)
He's got a couple of talkin' fish,
and a genie who'll grant a wish -
Golly, it's cuckoo at Pee-Wee's Playhouse!

Globey's spinnin', Mr. Window's grinnin',
'cause Pterri's flyin' by (hello!)
The Flowers are singin', the Picture Phone is ringin',
and the Dinosaur family goes, "Hi!"
Mr. Kite's soarin', Conky's still a snorin',
there's the flashing Magic Screen,
The Cowntess is so classy, Randy's kinda sassy -
A nuttier establishment you've never seen!
Spend the day with Pee-Wee and you'll see what we mean! (Come on!)

Get outta bed, there'll be no more nappin'! (Wake up!)
'Cause you've landed in a place where anything can happen -
Now we've given you fair warnin'!
It's gonna be that kind of mornin' -
For bein' wacky!
For getting nutty!
Golly, it's cuckoo!
At Pee-Wee's Playhouse!

Here's to Pee-Wee stayin' outside of the Adult Theaters.... or keepin' things inside if he enters these places.

Of course, no mention made of his fantastic job as "The Spleen" in Mystery Men -- one of the most underrated movies I've ever seen.

As much as I'd like to tell you that I did that from memory, and as easy as it would be to get away with being untruthful, I must admit that I Googled, copied, and pasted.

Thing is, there were some of those lyrics that I never had figured out, and didn't know what they were until I found that today.

I feel so ashamed. I am a grown man looking forward to seeing Pee Wee's Playhouse. Do I need help?

This is great news. I always loved watching that show. Anyone wanna' guess who was behind the voice of that character singing the themesong of the show? Hint: she was quirky.

Hmmm...quirky...high-pitched voice...female...80s...

I think I know!

I didn't realize until just a few minutes ago that the entire series is available on DVD! I could've asked Santa...

His first role after the movie theater fiasco, and wasn't his character's name Lefty?

There's a rumor he's up for the Joker in the next Batman movie.

That's just such great casting I can't believe it wasn't considered before.

I'd heard Paul Bettany or Steve Carrell, but you're right, Paul Reubens would be excellent in that role.

I forgot that this started this week. I've missed the first three night of it. I'll have to check the guide to see if the 11pm showing is the only one of the night.

I was watching this the other night and a creepy thought occured to me:

If you have kids and have ever seen Blue's Clues on Nick, you'll get this.

Pee-Wee's Playhouse is a show about Steve from Blues Clues, 30-years after the fact.
This is what happens to him after his dog dies, and no-one ever stops by to visit anymore.
All the animated furniture, the off-kilter windows and doors. Spooky.

I just listened to the song, it came up on my music on my computer while it was on random. And only one girl came to mind. It was the tap-dancing girl from the Rocky Horror Picture Show! lol. Then I thought of this thread! lol
