I was surprised he didn't get drafted despite the infamous nature of him. 13-0 and an ERA under 1 in high school ball and 8-0 sophomore year.

I don't know if this has been posted but this guy GOT MARRIED ALREADY! Four years ago he was playing little league.... now he's married to a 30 yr. old.

I think I heard earlier that his fastball topped out now in the mid 80s

I think that was me. The NY Daily News had that. But I would have taken a shot on him as a draft and follow. He is headed JUCO next year. What if he has a growth spurt and adds some mph to his fastball?

Scratch that, 27 yr olds don't usually hit growth spurts.:)

Mid-upper 80's. Before the draft, the Royals and Yankees showed some interest. He had some good numbers on a great high school team. He has some decent movement on the fastball and a deceptive delivery, but I don't think he projects to anything on a major league level.

Pete(nyc): Beats me Jim, why is Danny Almonte undrafted yet?? Coz of a 30 yr old wife?? thats silly i say..

SportsNation Jim Callis: Um, no. He's just not that great, more of a novelty pick than a great prospect. If he's looking for any kind of money, he probably doesn't get picked.

The last quote in the story is the oddest (referring to his new wife):

"Everything is good. We get along well."

Yeah, well I hope so!

since he plays better when he's four years older than everyone, the Reds are planning on drafting him when he's 45. Like five years from now.
