A source close to Dimitri Young has told WDFN that the Tigers power hitter has checked into the Betty Ford Center in Rancho Mirage, California. The Tigers would neither confirm nor deny the report, saying simply that Young remains away from the club for personal reasons, and have no further comment on the matter. Calls to Dimitri's agent have gone un-returned. Young was placed on the disabled list for a strained quadricep on May 23rd and has not been with the team. The Betty Ford Center is a well-known alcohol & drug rehabilitation clinic founded by the former first lady.

I always like Dmitri. I have to wonder if this has something to do with this story from May 18...

A romantic evening between Detroit Tiger Dmitri Young and a 21-year-old college student ended in an argument and then a struggle, police said Wednesday. Young, 32, is accused of choking his former girlfriend in the early morning hours of April 14, while the two were staying at the posh Townsend Hotel in Birmingham.

Young was charged Tuesday with domestic violence, a misdemeanor, and is expected to turn himself in to authorities Monday in a deal worked out between police and his attorney, police said. "It's a bum deal," Young said Wednesday. "Unfortunately, it's public knowledge. I don't see this person any more."

Is the "Betty Ford Clinic problem" part of the reason Dmitri was involved in the above-story? Is Dmitri trying to show "authorities" that he is trying to make himself better before a trial for the above-story takes place? Lots of questions...

I thought he was married with 3 kids?

When has that ever stopped a baseball player from having a girlfriend? Who he likes to beat up and get into the media spotlight?

:( I didn't know Betty Ford addressed addiction to Double Whoppers.
Hopefully he won't throw a bat at his addiction counselor if he disagrees with his diagnosis.

Judge issues warrant for Tigers' Young
By BRIAN CHARLTON, Associated Press Writer

District Court Judge Diane D'Agostini listens as Assistant Oakland County prosecutor Tare Wigod give the whereabouts of attorney William Swor and Detroit Tigers designated hitter Dmitri Young in Bloomfield Hills, Mich., Tuesday, June 13, 2006. Young and his attorney did not appear at a scheduled court hearing Tuesday, leading the perturbed judge to require that the lawyer provide documentation of the player's whereabouts by the end of the day. Young is charged with domestic violence and is accused of choking a 21-year-old Toledo, Ohio, woman on April 14 at the Townsend Hotel in Birmingham.
BLOOMFIELD HILLS, Mich. (AP) -- An arrest warrant for Dmitri Young was issued Tuesday after the Detroit Tigers designated hitter failed to appear for a pretrial hearing on a domestic violence charge.

Young is accused of choking a 21-year-old Toledo, Ohio, woman April 14 at a Birmingham hotel.

A judge ruled Tuesday that information provided by Young's attorney on the player's whereabouts did not reflect a requirement that he leave the state only for work-related purposes. Judge Diane D'Agostini of the 48th District Court in Bloomfield Hills the issued a bench warrant.

Young's attorney, William Swor, declined to comment.

Neither Swor nor Young were present for the pretrial hearing Monday. Swor faxed a request to D'Agostini on Monday afternoon, asking that the hearing be delayed because he was scheduled to be in federal court in Miami for a different case.

At Tuesday's hearing, Assistant Oakland County prosecutor Tare Wigod told D'Agostini that Swor told him Young had a medical emergency and was out of state.

But D'Agostini rejected the request for a delay and demanded proof by the end of the day that Young was housed at a legitimate medical facility. She also ordered Swor to appear in her courtroom on Friday.

Harkins said the court received a fax from Young's attorney but it did not reflect the conditions of his bond. He declined to reveal the contents of the fax.

Adam Katz, Young's agent, did not immediately return a message.

If convicted of the misdemeanor charge, the 32-year-old Young could face up to 93 days in jail and a $500 fine.

Young is in his 11th major league season and fifth with Detroit. He was hitting .169 in 59 at-bats with four RBIs when he was placed on the disabled list late last month with an irritation of a strain in his right quadriceps.

Well I know that I might get shelled for this one, but I don't like to see these kinda things happen to anyone, especially a sports player....I know that if he wouldn't have done this in the first place then he wouldn't be in this situation, but I am still sypathetic to him though...
