for Eli Marrero, as reported by the NYPost. Mets finally cutting their losses with that one. Biggest foreign failure in NY since Andy Morales? Hideki Irabu?

I'm of the opinion that Matsui has talent, but needs out of the New York spotlight. This should be good for him.

What what what? A huge Mets fan is in a supervisory position at the Reds flagship station? Sacrilege and shenanigans ahoy!

Mets could use a 2nd baseman, I bet they would have traded value for Womack ;)

So taste and intelligence are not a requirement to be a boss there?

Is this deal final? The Mets must be picking up a ton of salary. Matsui's making around $8M this year.

Mets send 4.5M in cash (making the deal a $$ neutral move) and Matsui is heading to AAA for COL.

The Rockies plan to keep Matsui at AAA Colorado Springs for a month before deciding if he can help the big club.

Matsui will report to Class AAA Colorado Springs and will be reevaluated after getting about a month of regular at-bats.

"We loved (Matsui) when he came out of Japan," Rockies general manager Dan ODowd said. "Obviously he hasnt been the same player over here that we knew he was over there. Well send him to Triple-A and see if we can get his bat going and see if he can help us at some point."
