View Full Version : Who do YOU feel should represent the Reds at the ASG?

IMO, Arroyo and Ross should represent the Reds in the ASG this year, but I know it's all a dream....

I did a little homework tonight (morning for you 'normal' people ;) )Wow...after sorting the stats, Ross should CLEARLY be at the ASG:
(for all NL catchers---min. 80 AB's)

OBP- 1st (.413)
SLG- 1st (.753)
BA - 2nd (.337)
OPS- 1st (1.166 :shocked:)
HR - 1st (10)
RBI's 7th (24) Note: All but one ahead of him have AT LEAST TWICE AS MANY AB'S.

And on Arroyo:
(NL SP's:minimum 12 starts)

IP- 2nd (105.2)
ERA- 3rd (2.47)
W's- 2nd (9)
K's- 8th (80)
CG- 2nd (2)
WHIP- 5th (1.12)

Those are some pretty impressive stats...what say you?

Arroyo and Ross. Next would be Harang and Dunn.

I agree with Harang, but Dunn has no shot, due to his BA...right or wrong, it's a fact. And personally, I'd put BP in before Dunn. But Arroyo and Ross deserve it, period.

I know that Dunn has little chance right now, but there is still almost 3 weeks left. I wouldn't vote for him, but he would be my 2nd tier. Brandon Phillips would be my "third tier".

Arroyo is definite. If Ross had been starting all season he would be shoe in. But he hasn't so I doubt that he will make it. Maybe Phillips but that would be it unless Griffey gets voted in.

Utley and Kent will be the 2nd basemen and Dan Uggla should go before Phillips or Kent.

Arroyo, JR, and Phillips should be in... But Philips won't make it.

Outside looking in... Harrang and Coffey.

I'm having a hard time seeing anyone but Arroyo really. There are a number of good, not great players on this team. That leads to a good records but not many All Stars.

Dead on, I'm afraid.

Who SHOULD represent the Reds and who WILL are two different items very far apart.

I assume this question is asking who I personally think is all-star worthy on the Reds, as opposed to what will happen in terms of voting/politics whatever.

For my part, the All-Stars on this team are:

Bronson Arroyo
Brandon Phillips
David Ross

Ross dosen't even have 100 AB, so I don't think he should go.

I would go with:
Arroyo
Phillips
Lopez (maybe)

That's not David Ross' fault, but it is to his credit that he has done more in those at-bats than every other catcher in the NL...

% chance to get in...

Arroyo = 100% chance
Ross = 50%
Griffey = 50% (vote only)
Loepz = 25%
Dunn = 10%
Coffey = 10%
Phillips = 10%
Harang = 10%

Arroyo and Griffey are going IMO.

Ross is a one yera wonder at this point. he won't get the call, neither will Phillips.

No on else is really deserving IMO.

I do wonder who put what in Ross's water.

Prior to this year, he'd done absolutely nothing of note. You have to wonder if it's sustainable...although I'm certainly enjoying it while it lasts.

I also think Phillips' wonderful start to 2006 is being missed by even a bunch of us loyal zealots of the wishbone C, his stats after last night's game:

.308 BA/.352 OBP/.463 SLG/ .815 OPS

7 homeruns, 40 RBI, 14 stolen bases (I don't think he's been caught yet), 33 runs, 99 total bases, all in 214 at-bats.

And, he brings certain gloveliness to the field that is woefully missing from others.

Look, I don't think he makes it, because I don't think how good he has been is really appreciated outside of the city. But it has also been underappreciated even amongst the fans. He ain't making it, likely, but there is no question he is deserving of a spot on the team, and is one of the few on the team who is...

NL SS WinShares (as of 6/15):
Reyes 11
Renteria 10
Vizquel 10
Hall 8
Eckstein 8
Lopez 8

If Hanley Ramirez (7) had kept up his pace, he'd be higher on this list as well.

If the Reds maintain the current rotation and skip Joe Mays on next Monday's off day, then Arroyo will be scheduled to start the last game before the All-Star Break in Atlanta.

I think David Ross has to have strong consideration, no matter how many games he has played, his numbers for a catcher are that good. I'd say he is an all-star.

Arroyo is a definite.

Junior should be there every year he is healthy from now until he retires.

I think Brandon Phillips should be there as well.

I'm not a big fan of putting guys in the AS game who haven't even had a full seaosn of sustained success.

Arroyo and Phillips both deserve to go.

But besides that, think of the most commonly talked about names in this thread. Arroyo, Phillips, and Ross. None of these guys were even thought of being close to all-stars before this year, and none of them were Reds.

Thank God for Wayne Krivsky!!!

Defense doesn't mean anything for an all-star team.

Edwin is one of our best offensive players when healthy, and if it wasn't for his DL stint he would have had a shot to be an all-star.

He is 23, his D and O will imrpove.

Brandon Phillips deserves it, but I haven't looked at the other 2B stats, but over .300, great defense, has some good RBI numbers, and can steal.

I would have though Coffey too, but his last few outting might have taken him out of the running.

Arroyo should start! :)

In my fantasy league, Phillips is the 3rd rated NL second baseman. I think he deserves some consideration.

Definitely in:
Arroyo

Real possibilites:
Phillips
Ross
Griffey - if he can get the votes.

You're not alone.

While Arroyo has been great for us, and should be in the discussion for NL Cy Young, I want him to bust out the guitar and have some time off for the ASB out of pure selfishness to let him rest for the 2nd half.

The last thing we need is Phil Garner ruining Bronson Arroyo somehow.

Hopefully Griffey gets voted in, but I just don't see it happening anymore.

That being said, me thinking Arroyo will go with a pick via Garner, and Griffey not getting in via vote, I don't see us having a 2nd representative.

Watch and see, Biggio will be on that team.

Coffey is deserving, but probably won't get in, had he been closing from Day 1 and put up the same numbers he may be there, also if he had a better bullpen behind him to get him into more games, but he has been one of the best relievers this year, its too bad that you generally have to be a closer or starter to go, and he doesn't have enough saves to get there.
But Deserving yes, he is the only reason our bullpen isn't worse than KC!

It'll be Griff and Arroyo. Thats probably it.
