The Reds' results against whate appears to be a favorable schedule for the rest of the first half just might determine whether they become buyers later in July after the All-Star break.

Some obvious facts: Prior to Sunday's game, the Reds are 40-35. This is the third-best record in the National League. They trail the Cardinals by 3 games. Third-place Houston and Milwaukee are 3 games behind the Reds. Cincinnati leads the wild card standings by 1/2 game over the Dodgers and Padres.

The Reds remaining schedule prior to the break: 3 v. Kansas City, 3 v. Cleveland, 3 at Milwaukee, and 4 at Atlanta. These clubs are all below .500. Can the Reds take 8, 9, or even 10 of these 13? If so, they might be in a position to justify adding the reliever or two that they will probably need to stay competitive down the stretch.
