Righthander Kerry Wood visited Dr. Tim Kremchek in Cincinnati on Monday. Kremchek operated on Wood's shoulder last August. Wood threw a side session while hooked up to equipment for biomechanical analysis.

"The MRI in Dr. Kremchek's terms, stated it was pristine (and) that the labia repair looked as if it was completely intact (and) looked like it had healed nicely and perfectly. He said his rotator cuff looks pristine, the joint looks good. So there is no significant concerns of any kind of significant issue or injury or anything like that," trainer Mark O'Neal said. Wood is back on the disabled list after four starts.

Ahem.... this story was followed by this urgent correction from the AP to all editors: "Eds: Subs to CORRECT to 'labrum' sted 'labia.'" :)

A torn labia would be UGLY.

My co-workers and I were having one of those "team builder" group meetings in which everyone in the group tells a little something about him/herself. One of my female coworkers told us she was a pole-vaulter in college, but had to give it up because she got injured. "I think it was a torn labia," she said.

Difficult silence. LOOOONG, difficult silence.

I finally stifled my urge to laugh and bailed her out by saying, "Yeah, torn labrum. Baseball pitchers get that injury a lot."

Who wants to volunteer to post a picture of a labia to give our younger viewers an idea of how serious an injury this is?

Younger viewers??? There are some 35 year olds on here who don't know what we're talking about.

I'm sure several of Wood's teammates will handle that with detailed pictures in the clubhouse.

Didn't Tatum O'Neal get one back at her in the championship game for Chico's Bail Bonds?

That might be the only one in recorded history!

Here is a pretty good picture of his shoulder ... maybe someone from the medical community can help us out.

As I understand it, if the tissue is wore out/damaged, sometimes they have no choice but to replace it with a part from a cadaver.

I wonder if this is where the term "dead arm" comes from? ;)

Is that true?!?
Very much so.

Also very common in ACL, MCL, PCL surgeries and patellar tendon reconstructions.

I remember when I played high school ball I was helping one of our pitchers warm up, and right after he threw a pitch I heard a loud "pop" and I knew immediately that he'd torn his labia.

It was a sickening sound--not something I'll ever forget.
