Just started.

ManRam, Vlad, Ichiro is the starting AL OF.
A-Rod, Jeter, Loretta, Papi the IF.
Pudge is the C.

I agree that they should have dh in all star game since dh is not on the ballet. That forced the fans to include Ortiz as 1b. This way let an extra player be added to each roster.

WVRed

Pudge over a guy hitting .392, no way. Just goes to prove the MLB ASG is nothing more than a popularity contest.

They did make a compelling argument on Paul Konerko over David Ortiz, although I will admit they should give the "NL should DH" up.

I'm kind of upset that Harang didn't make the team. He pitched well enough in the 1st half to be there. The same thing could be said for Chris Young(Padres) and Roy Oswalt(Astros). Since Pedro isn't going to play(I'm guessing), we could see one of these guys get picked up. I think that Oswalt would be the likely choice due to Garner being the manager. I am amazed that he wasn't selected anyway. Derrick Turnbow shouldn't be on the club over any of these guys. He's second in the league in saves, I am guessing that's what put him in. I just don't understand that selection at all. Isringhausen of St. Louis has a better ERA (3.89 ERA) and more saves (24) and he didn't make the club.

Pedro Martinez 7-4 3.45 ERA 111 K 101 IP 1.00 WHIP
Chris Young 7-3 2.97 ERA 88 K 97 IP 1.09 WHIP
Aaron Harang 9-5 3.45 ERA 109 K 112 IP 1.26 WHIP
Roy Oswalt 6-4 3.27 ERA 74 K 110 IP 1.25 WHIP
Derrick Turnbow 4-4 4.04 ERA 45 K 35.2 IP 1.32 WHIP 23 Saves

I'm really ticked off the Travis Hafner didn't get picked for the team. I'm guessing it's because he's a DH and there is no DH in this game. Still, he's 2nd in MLB in OPS, trailing only Pujols. The guy deserves to be on the team. With flashy names like Liriano and Verlander in the "last man vote," I doubt he wins that vote. Liriano shouldn't be included in the last vote, IMO, not because he doesn't deserve it, but because he pitches SUN, and it's doubtful he would throw a pitch in the game anyway...

I also think Buerhrle over Schilling, Liriano, or Verlander is a crime.

..and don't even get me started on Derrick Turnbow. What? An ERA over 4.00. Just goes to show how bad of a stat "saves" are these days. That stat needs to be adjusted.

Also surprised that Justin Morneau didn't even make the last man vote. He's having a great season...

I seriously do not care about this game anymore.

The overdone pomp...... the overdone lovefest..... I mean when Mays and Aaron where playing their last AS Games....did you see them get their A's kissed by opposing players?

Mickey Lolich made Mays look like a really bad Jason LaRue AB in the 1972 AS Game in ATL (if that was his last, maybe he went in 1973?)

There was no standing applause by the opposing dugout.

When Parker threw out Brian Downing at home plate with a laser throw in the 1979 AS Game..... Downing did not go bear hug Parker like Bonds did to Hunter in the ASGame where Hunter robbed Bonds.

Sorry.... i am not on the goodship lollipop when it comes to that feel good moment. Give me a Bob Gibson blasting some one off the plate like the new Mr. Clean ( i.e. Steve "Pappa" Garvey) in Alex Rodriguez. Great player....but so packaged and prepared. He is like a cliche of answers in his interviews.

I mean if someone told Rose, Morgan, Gibson and Fisk that if your team made the WS you had home field advantage, you do not think it would have been a bigger us vs them type game, than it already was back then?

I am not that old.... not even 40 yet.... and this game has totally lost it's flavor for me. The fans do a better job of voting than before....but you cannot expect them to actually pick anyone other than big market players as reserves. Or players whose names are on ESN daily. Talked about...day after day.

And when a big market team like the Mets is going good....plan on half the team making it. I mean you still need to add another player in maybe Billy Wagner?? Was Skip Lockwood not available?

Interleague play has taken away what was once special about the all-star game. It used to be that the all-star game was the one time of year when the best from each league would face each other. Now, pretty much all of these players have already played against the guys in the opposing dugout.

Roy Oswalt has been named the replacement for Pedro Martinez. Magglio Ordonez is going in place of Manny Ramirez. Nomar Garciaparra and AJ Pierzynski won the final vote.

On another note, Jose Reyes was injured tonight. No word yet on if he will be making the All-Star trip. He was cleated while sliding head first into first base.

NEW YORK -- New York Mets All-Star shortstop Jose Reyes left in the seventh inning of Friday night's 7-3 loss to Florida with a cut on his left pinkie.

He appeared to get spiked on a headfirst slide into first base and needed seven stitches in the finger. X-rays were negative.

"Everything is fine," Reyes said, adding he would sit out Saturday's doubleheader and Sunday's game against the Marlins.

As for Tuesday night's All-Star Game in Pittsburgh, "The doctor says let's see how it feels in the next couple of days," Reyes said.

Reyes, who is hitting .300, extended his hitting streak to seven games with a first-inning single.

He was one six Mets selected to the All-Star team. Pitcher Pedro Martinez has already withdrawn because of a sore hip that put him on the disabled list.

PITTSBURGH -- Milwaukee Brewers left-hander Chris Capuano was a last-minute addition Sunday to the NL All-Star team, replacing New York Mets left-hander Tom Glavine.

Capuano is 10-4 with a 3.21 ERA and 112 strikeouts in 129 innings for the Brewers, shutting out the Cubs on six hits Thursday night in his final start before the All-Star break. This will be his first All-Star Game.

"It still hasn't really sunk in," Capuano said before his team's game Sunday in Milwaukee. "It's kind of surreal."

Glavine will attend Tuesday night's game in Pittsburgh, but chose to be replaced on the NL team because he started Sunday against Florida. The 40-year-old Glavine would have been the only player who was on an NL roster during an All-Star victory over the AL, in 1996 in Philadelphia.

NL manager Phil Garner of the Astros caused something of a stir by not choosing Capuano for the NL staff on Friday after Mets right-hander Pedro Martinez went on the disabled list. Garner instead picked his own pitcher, right-hander Roy Oswalt, who is 6-6 with a 3.15 ERA. Oswalt was a 20-game winner the last two seasons.

Losing the spot to Oswalt was not the only All-Star issue Capuano faced in the last week. He finished second to Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Nomar Garciaparra in balloting among fans for the final spot on the NL team.

"It's been a surreal week going back and forth," said Capuano, who canceled a planned trip to Cape Cod, Mass., to attend the All-Star Game. "To finally get it is unbelievable."
