Felipe Lopez is not in the starting lineup again today. Why is this? I know that he made a big error yesterday, but I'm not sure why we want to keep him if he is going to sit 2 games out of 3. Maybe Lopez and a prospect or 2 is the trade bait? Who knows...but I do know they have to do something.

Have to let the veterans play.

I understand that. But, is Castro really that much better offensively? And, if the Reds are paying him $2.7 million, he should not be a platoon player.

Platoon?

Maybe he's hurt?

Maybe they want to help him get his head together?

I don't know, but I know he sucks right now against LH's and I know I think that neither he or Castro will be the SS for the team next year.

It looks that way. I would really like to see what Phillips looks like over there. Phillips does turn a mean DP at 2nd though.

Blue Jays could use a SS who can hit...

Trade him for the oldest guy on the roster.

Phillips vs. LH

.333 .383 .458 .841

Freel vs. LH

.349 .474 .492 .966

Maybe the discussion shouldn't be about who gets to play between FeLo and Manos.....both of them should sit to be honest.

Yup, there is a few of putting Phillips at SS right now. I'm pretty sure he can handle it. Then put Freel at 2nd.

That would be my guess. When EE comes back there is going to be a surplus. I say trade from the surplus and get something back to help in the late innings. You can play Freel at 2nd and Phillips at short...then have Aurilia and Castro who can play any of 2nd, short, or 3rd.

I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of it has to do with his attitude. Maybe Narron is getting sick of it. I don't know if anyone else caught it, but he seriously loafed to first on a ground ball yesterday in the first inning. Was practically walking by the time he got to the bag. I have been questioning his mental aspect of the game all season. He makes too many bonehead mistakes.

I would have no problem shopping him around. I would love to see Phillips at SS and Freel at 2B on a daily basis.

Today is Castro's third start with the Reds since he was traded for on June 15. He is batting .242 with a .265 OBP. In contrast, Ray Olmedo was tearing the cover off the ball in a pinch-hitting role during his time with the Reds, .318 with not only on OBP of .389 but also an OPS of .826.

Olmedo started all of 1 game while he was up with the Reds. Yet he is younger, faster, and can certainly play all the positions Castro can, and equally well.

Didn't Olmedo also have an error in his only start with the Reds? I'll take Castro simply because of his defense, something that this team is below average at.

Lopez should maybe give up the switch hitting

Is it just a coincidence that the Twins started killing everybody once they got rid of Castro, who was starting at SS?

Yeah, I would say it is a coincidence. One player does not make or break a baseball team.

Ok, how about Lopez and Claussen for Ted Lilly, Casey Janssen and Scott Schoenweis?

IIRC, they also benched Rondell White and called up Jason Kubel which has helped too.

Santana got off to a rocky start also and is now pitching like a Cy Young winner again.
