Reds capsule:
CINCINNATI REDS

•Schedule: After losing eight of nine before the break, the Reds could use some patsies on the schedule. Instead, here come the improved Rockies and the NL-best Mets. Both are visiting Great American Ball Park, which hasn't provided much comfort for Cincinnati (20-22 at home, 25-22 on the road).

•Keep an eye on: Right-hander Bronson Arroyo. The All-Star became an instant hit in Cincinnati with his effective pitching and even a powerful bat. He's had two rough outings in a row, though, and the Reds rotation doesn't have the depth to make up for many struggles by its ace.

•Buy or sell: The additions of starter Joe Mays and reliever Eddie Guardado smack of desperation, but the Reds have little choice. GM Wayne Krivsky wants to show fans that, after a decade out of the playoffs, Cincinnati can at least contend until the end.

The brewers have been the model of incosistency all year. The reds have been hot or cold but Milwaukee is almost schizophrenic.

Also, we've got the same odds as the Braves of winning the WS. If you'd have told me that when the season began I would have said, "I'll take it."
