Wow, that SHOULDN'T be very hard to achieve at all. And yes, I do think it'll be enough for the NL.

Considering how much parity there is among those in the wild card race, 87 may be enough to win the wild card if not the NL Central.

Honestly, I'd be happy with 82. That wouldn't make the playoffs, but it would be a winning season.

I don't think 87 wins will be quite enough. Obviously, history tells us that it normally requires a lot more, but even with this season's parity, I think at least 90 will be required. Why? With 69 games to go (for most of the other teams), four teams have 46 wins, two have 45 and one has 44. At least one of those teams will catch fire. Catching fire will mean playing somewhere between .600 and .650 ball. FWIW, playing .625 ball for the rest of the year would get a team with 46 wins now to a final total of 89 wins.

The last few years the wild card had: 89, 92, 91, 95 and 93 wins.

You stole the words right out of my mouth.

wouldn't it be something to see the A's reach the playoffs as well and have a rematch of the great 1990 WS? How do you think it would play out this time?

The Reds and A's...my two favorite teams!

 Would that make me happy? No... Less disappointed than the last few years? Yes... Optimistic about 07? Still some offseason work to be done.

To me its no winning season unless the Reds make the post season.

In 2003 The Cubs made the playoffs by winning the division. They won 88 games that year. In 2005 Houston made the Wild Card with 89 wins. In 1997the Astros won the division by winning 84 games. Unless the Cards just go into the tubes, the Wild Card is the Reds chance to go to the playoffs. 85 wins? Probably playoffs. 90 wins? For certain and it might mean a possible division title. Less than 85? I say no.
