How about Byrd?

If the Indians are giving up, I don't think Byrd would cost a whole lot in terms of prospects. Especially knowing what they got in return for Wickman.

Thoughts?

I like Byrd too. But whats his salary? Seem to recall the Tribe signing him to a two year contract at $14 million. If true that could be a problem. Cleveland should be selling now and if a deal can be worked out try to get Casey Blake too. He's a better option than Sanders and about $2million cheaper. I'd like Byrd/Blake over Dessens/Sanders which has been discussed recently.:beerme:

From Cot's:

06:$7M, 07:$7M, 08:$8M club option ($0.25M buyout)
if Byrd finishes 1-3 in Cy Young voting in 2006 or 2007, he has a choice of increasing his 2008 option to $11M or the buyout to $1M

$0.1M All-Star incentive
club to provide hotel suite on the road

I think I'd pass.

Are the Indians giving up just because they farmed out Wickman? I don't think so personally. They've been sending out "feelers" on Wickman for the last couple months.

So the question is.... Is Byrd available?

He makes 7 Mil/yr.... so you'd be paying him around 3.5.

He would be our #3 in the rotation. I like Elizardo, but he would be #4 and Milty #5.

After seeing that salary, however, I'm afraid that he's untradeable, unless Cleveland eats a bunch of it.

No thanks.

Yeah, that's a pretty hefty price tag.
