I was just going through the Reds' situation hitter numbers and thought they were interesting. Here's the RISP, RISP w/2 outs and close and late top 3s for BA, OB, SLG and RBIs (10 or more ABs to qualify). I'll include a 4th place finisher for any ranking where FeLo or Kearns might appear.

RISP

BA - 1) Encarnacion .333, 2) Ross .310, Phillips .299
OB - 1) Lopez .432, 2) Encarnacion .419, 3) Ross .410, 4) Hatteberg .403
SLG - 1) Castro .750, 2) Dunn .588, 3) Encarnacion .587
RBI - 1) Dunn 41, 2) Phillips 40, 3) Encarnacion 34

RISP w/ 2 outs

BA - 1) Kearns .300, 2) Dunn .278, 3) Encarnacion .267, 4) Aurilia .257
OB - 1) Ross .444, 2) LaRue .441, 3) Hatteberg .419
SLG - 1) Ross .615, 2) Dunn .583, 3) Aurila .429
RBI - 1) Dunn 18, 2) Kearns 16, 3) Phillips 15, 4) Aurilia 11

Close and late

BA - 1) Dunn .326, 2) Ross .316, 3) Hatteberg .314
OB - 1) Hatteberg .467, 2) Dunn .466, 3) Ross .409
SLG - 1) Griffey .705, 2) Dunn .674, 3) Ross .632
RBI - 1) Griffey 18, 2) Dunn 13, 3) Valentin 10

Just as an addendum, Dunn and Ross rank in the top three in OPS in all three categories.

Dunn and Ross are doing pretty well for themselves and for this team.... Ross needs to heal up, the offense could use his bat for sure.

When we are depending on the hot bat of Dave Ross to carry us through August, I'm reminded of Marty Brennaman's favorite question.

How we lookin?

Ahh, a veiled get well soon David Ross thread ;)

Oh btw - Who is this Encarnacion guy? I never see him in the lineup, but he sure looks like he can rake. I'd probably want him on my team starting everyday.

Obviously a rookie who cant play the game. Thats why we pinch hit for him or just dont play him.

Larue and Ross OBP with 2 outs may be inflated by IBBs (with 9 hole on deck)? Or pitch-arounds....

Valentin's 10 RBIs close and late -- wow.

It's called Pinch Clutch. Or something like that.

3 of them was in one AB, IIRC.

For sure, though they're at the top of the SLG list too, making them excellent candidates for a pitch around. Dunn's also tops the BA list in that category for all remaining Reds.

Send him to single A

Actually, if they don't plan to play him why waste service time with him on the 25?

Poor Denorfia won't see the light of day now cause of that ball he missed yesterday. :(

It is interesting that Lopez's name only shows up once in this list while several players who have been injured or have had limited playing time are seen several times.

AK, however, I expected to see his name and do. IMO he was the real value in the trade and I can see why people are unhappy with what we gave up vs what we got back.

Can the power that is Deno really be benched? I mean, I can see EE being benched. Despite the claims of some...(cough...reds44...chough) who have some crush on him, he's no Deno. I'm mean, Deno could melt Narron with his heat rays and smash his atomic structure with one blast of his pinky so could he really be benched?

What's sad is that you are probably right.

I just think of Denorfia's mistake and Encarnacion's whatever just landed them in solitary confinement at Shawshank.

That's the last time Encarnacion tries to start a library.

Can we add to the stats situational walking? Although a BB is a benefit anytime, because it achieves a base and makes no out, it's the walks when the team is trailing that I appreciate the most.

Example: Aurilia leading off Friday's 7th inning took a straight one in the zone on a 3-1 count, forcing the full count walk on the next pitch. Not only was it a leadoff base acquired, but while trailing by 4 runs late. I'd like to see more of that.

Same inning, Freel takes a 3-1 straight one down the middle, drawing his walk on the next offering, getting on base as the tying run.

Add to that Aurilia's trailing-by-two, 1-inning-later, 2-out 8th inning walk to bring up the potential tying run, again after taking a 3-1 strike and then managing to foul off a pitcher's pitch before drawing the BB.

Come to think of it, maybe that wasting of nasty or perfect 2-strike deliveries to stay alive can be another added stat: situational fouling. Some hitters have that ability -- Dave Parker from the past comes to mind, Hatteberg in the present. I'd like to see more of that, too.
