Well, if we can keep Bill Hall in the park and Damien Miller under raps, who has whatever hits he has off the Reds, this is a pretty weak lineup, and no Weeks? Day off or did something happen to him?

First, get some whiteout and replace LaRue with Ross (though I have a feeling this game might be a showcase game for LaRue, so it could make sense)

I hope they score fifteen runs, and Jerry makes a note of it.

(I'd still substitute Aurilia for Clayton; it's not like there'd be any defensive dropoff).

Reading that AB PBP on LaRue was probably more scarier and deflating....than actually watching it.

This guy has always been a lunger......a hacker at the most insane pitches out of the strike zone.

Did he not read my post before batting?

My hatred of Mr. Milton taps into what dsmith raised in his earlier post: the sheer indignity of him dragging his corpse out to that mound every fifth day to put the Reds in revolting deficits. Good god, man, have some self-respect and take a hammer to your fore-arm. You'd still get paid.

One of the better posts I've read in a while.

Each Milton start cost the Reds around 250K.

We haven't even paid Elizardo that much for the season.

Nats acquire hurler Martis from Giants
07/28/2006 6:44 PM ET
By Bill Ladson / MLB.com

LOS ANGELES -- Left fielder Alfonso Soriano is still with the Nationals, but left-hander Mike Stanton is not after he was traded to the Giants for right-hander Shairon Martis on Friday evening.
It's the second trade made by general manager Jim Bowden before the deadline. It's also the second time Bowden has traded Stanton in less than a year. On Sept. 29, Stanton was traded to the Red Sox for Minor League pitchers Rhys Taylor and Yader Peralta. Stanton signed a free-agent contract with the Nationals on Christmas Eve.

Stanton played in 56 games this season and went 3-5 with a 4.47 ERA. He was the only reliever not involved in the bullpen shenanigans that cost bullpen coach John Wetteland his job. When the relievers were shooting firecrackers or breaking bobble head dolls, Stanton was in the dugout watching the game.

Martis, 19, was 6-4 with a 3.64 ERA in 15 starts for Class A Augusta. Martis allowed two runs or fewer in five of his final seven starts with Augusta, including a trio of start in which he worked at least five innings and did not allow a run.

On March 10, Martis fired the first no-hitter in World Baseball Classic history, leading the Netherlands to a 10-0 mercy-rule-shortened contest against Panama.

complete coverage >Martis has averaged 8.9 strikeouts per nine innings during his nearly three-year career, during which he is 12-8 with a 2.59 ERA in 40 career games (32 starts).
