View Full Version : So what do you do now with Aurilia?

I've come to the conclusion that Aurilia is pretty valuable to this team's offense after The Trade. So what do we do with him now? We have 3 very good hitters in 2 positions, so we aren't getting our best offense out there everyday.

You decide in the poll.

Play him at 2B move Phillips to SS and give Clayton EE's old seat at the end of the bench.

Yep. I'd keep him. What he'd bring in return wouldn't help the Reds more than he himself would.

Aurilia to 2B, Phillips to SS, EE at 3rd.

trade him if we can get value for him (along with another lesser pitcher) for a #3 pitcher.

Rich to 2nd, BP to SS, EE starts at 3rd.

Trade him for whatever you can get of even marginal value. EE is on the upswing and RA is on the downswing [career wise] so let EE grow and produce just as well and maybe get a chip for the future.

Aurilia to 2B, Phillips to SS, EE at 3rd.Claytons lack of defense and offense is too important at SS

I agree with the others Aurilia to 2B, BP at SS and EE at 3B needs to be the everyday lineup. There is no way EE should continue to only get to play only 2 or 3 times a week.

I disagree. I choose to have no statues in the middle infield. I think his lack of range hurts us at 3b, imagine what it'll do at 2B.

Guess we'd need to play Phillips shaded toward 2nd

Is the "excellent" D provided by Clayton enough to offset his lack of offense? Is the offense provided by Aurilia enough to offset his lack of range?

Reds in a catch-22?

Clayton no, bc he doesn't even really have good D. I would trade Rich, and see what we could get for him. If he is still around I still say no. He is on an absolute tear right now, he was AWFUL until about a month ago. On July 9th his OBP was .319, now it is .340. So when he levels out, he will still be below average.

But I wouldn't mind our infield being EdE, BP (at SS), Freel, Hatte/Votto next year, Deno in the OF.

Aurilia to 2B, Phillips to SS, EE at 3rd.

Like everyone, I would agree with this.

But if we can't sit Clayton for whatever reason...I'd keep Aurilla at 3rd over EE.

We agree! It's a miracle. :) Then we have Freel to sub with and all those guys and add Deno to the mix. Add a starter and still probably 2 more guys in the pen and we might be for real.

Why the clamour to move Aurilia to second?

It's not like he'll magically accquire the range needed to man the position properly.

Trade him.

He's got some perceived value.

Just a nice bat in the line up. Maybe platoon him with Freel and then split some time with Hatte. I just want our current SS gone and EE playing full time. Both RA and EE showed they know what they were doing against Turnbow. I just like the idea of BP at SS and then these other guys at 2B. Who knows. We might pick someone else up. I wouldn't trade right now. I think RA bat is vital without Kearns and FeLo.

Rich Aurilia's trade value will never be higher.

But, hey, play offense in our ball park and you'll hit like a banchie too.

Package him with something, anything, and get something that clears the way for EE, since Royce Clayton is now our everyday SS.....

Why not put him back in a 1B platoon with Hatteberg? If he's not traded that is.

For a guy on the down swing, he sure hasn't shown it this year or last. ;)

The year before we acquired him him played with a hairline fracture in his wrist.

Because Hatteberg has shown he can hit lefties and righties at an over .300 clip and over .400 OBP. Without Kearns and FeLo we need him in the lineup everyday.

This is from another thread, but to put Clayton on the bench and get a better hitter into the lineup, how about;:

C - ROSS
1B - HATTEBERG
2B - FREEL
SS - PHILLIPS
3B - AURILIA
LF - DUNN
CF - GRIFFEY
RF -

RF- ENCARNACION

Sure this ideally is a spring training move, but it's not just switching guys around for no reason at all.

A. Phillips' SS defense probably is an upgrade over Clayton's.
B. Freel's 2B defense probably is a slight upgrade to that of EE's at 3B. And his range at 2B would surpass that of RA's.
C. EE's foot speed and athleticism probably allows him to be at least as serviceable an outfielder (I know he has not played there) as Dunn and adds RH punch to the lineup.
D. It permits EE, RA, and the Hat to all get equal playing time.

Net result: OF defense gets weaker; IF defense remains about the same; offense returns to approximately what it was before it lost Kearns and Lopez.

I like your thinking. I think I would rather have EdE at 2B though, and Freel in RF. EdE did play SS for a while in low minors.

EE in the OF would be another Dunn, I thought we wanted to improve the defense

EE would improve the defense @ 3B. if given the chance.

Wayne and Jerry covet good defense, they just have a strange perception of what good defense really is. ;)

Hatteberg vs. lefties: .250/.353/.411

RA vs. righties: .243/.291/.379

Hat doesn't hit lefties all that well and RA flat stinks against righties. Put them back in a platoon at 1B like they were earlier in the year. Leave EE at 3B everyday because he hits righties and lefties very well.
