I bet the Pirates get something for him, too. :)

Got to feel happy for a guy like him finally having a chance to play in October.

They have Shelton. Shelton going to DH now?he isn't real good at first. It means Da Meat Hook goes to the bench.

Wonder how well Case will do in the AL? Its a large park so his line drives should run up his extra base knocks.

Good for Case. All around great guy who deserves a chance at a World Series and he will get that chance with the Tigers.

Cleveland, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh & Detroit.

That just about covers the Rust Belt.

Anyone want to give odds on whether Casey hits a homer in Comerica between now & the end of the year?

He still needs to do a rehab start in Akron.

I'll bet the Tigers gave up more than Dave Williams.

Of course a crate of oranges would be better than Dave Williams.

So much for that contract extension, so much for going home.

.296/.377/.408/.785

Should be interesting the Tigers slug .482 on the road and .425 at home, Casey could take a big hit slugging wise (on an already poor number).

Casey probably grew up idolizing Tanner and Leyland. I'll bet he's a little sad he will not be able to sleep in his old bed though. Great trade for Casey. Not a bad team to be joininga playoff hunt.

Ken Rosenthal is reporting Casey was traded in exchange for a minor league pitcher.

Looks like they did give up more than Dave Williams.

Good deal for Casey and the Tigers. I guess we can put those Soriano to the Tigers rumors to rest.

Wouldn't it be something that Bowden shoots himself in the foot by overpricing Soriano and ends up not trading him?

DETROIT -- The Detroit Tigers acquired first baseman Sean Casey from the Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday in exchange for minor-league pitcher Brian Rogers.

Casey, a career .304 hitter, gives the AL Central-leading Tigers the left-handed-hitting presence they have lacked as they head toward a playoff berth.

Casey hit .296 (63-for-213) with 15 doubles, three home runs and 29 RBI in 59 games this season with Pittsburgh.

Rogers, 24, went 3-2 with one save and a 2.39 ERA in 37 relief appearances this season with Double-A Erie of the Eastern League. He was Detroit's 11th round selection in the 2003 draft from Georgia Southern University.

To make room for Casey, Detroit optioned the contract of first baseman Chris Shelton to Triple-A Toledo.

This is great for Casey. The Tigers seem a shoe in for the playoffs and will be favored to win the ALCS. The Tigers should lead the league in hugs now.;)

Wow! Shelton really fell off the map after a fast start.

Don't lump Cincinnati with that filthy trio.

So, the Pirates end up with Rogers for their $5M paid to Casey this year.

Yes, I wonder where all those great prospects are that Casey was supposed to net?

Don't forget, the Pirates did dump Dave Williams on us, so they got more than Rogers and half a season of Casey for 5 Mil. Addition by subtraction. Salary dump.

And he played his AAA ball right here in lovely Buffalo, NY...the butt end of lake Erie

Williams could have been dumped for free before the season. His contract was not guaranteed.

Shelton had a hot start and that's all he's had... he's on my two fantasy teams so I've been watching him closely and have not even bother to play him in several weeks.

After that hot start, he fell into a deep dark hole and has yet to dig himself out of it... though it goes relatively unnoticed as his average was so high due to the hot start.
