The 3 catchers work because Valentine is our lefty specialist and I think we'll cary all 3, but pitchers I think will have to give. I wonder who will go. Especially if Merker and Belise come back healhty.

Currently

pitchers - Harang, Arroyo, Ramirez, Milton, Lohse, Standridge, Shackleford, Cormier, Weathers, Coffey, Majewski, Bray, Guardado (13)

position - Hatteberg, Phillips, Clayton, Aurilia, Encarnacion, Castro, Ross, Larue, Valentin, Dunn, Griffey, Freel, Denorfia (13)

Somebody has to go today and it will be a pitcher.

If Claussen comes back Saturday then another pitcher will have to go then as well.

Unless they plan on using Standridge as a starter, he seems to be the most likely choice. But if that happens you would have 5 lefties in the pen, and I don't know if that would work.

I'd put Magic on the DL and let him rest his arm for a couple weeks.

Sounds like a good idea. He obviously hasn't done much good since coming over in the trade and has been used a ton this year. The DL may do him some good.

I assume Standridge doesn't have options since we DFA'd him early in the year? I doubt he'd clear waivers this time, so I would say Shack is the odd man out since he has options.

The team is in another quandary roster-squeeze-wise if Claussen is ready to pitch this weekend, though that looks doubtful.

He was used a ton by the Nats last season too. I kinda doubt we will see an effective Majewski this season. He may need to let his arm rest for good long while and come back next spring.

I find all the Majewski to the DL stuff quite amusing. JB wouldn't have suckered WK with a sore armed pitcher?

since u can option a player as many times as you want during the same season, i would imagine it's possible that you could have Lizard active only on the days that he pitches. that would solve the problem 80 percent of the time. works for me.

ps assuming that you could get one of the other pitchers through waivers one time

I like the Majewski + DL idea as well, unless they just think it's a mental thing with him and he actually needs more innings.

My first thought was that Shackleford goes back down. It's hard to carry a 0.1 IP reliever when there are other quality players available to use. But looking at the Dodgers lineup, they have a ton of LH batters. He would be very useful vs. all of those.

Majewski also pitched in the WBC too. That is more added pitches. This was the one concern I had about that trade. Majewski may just be spent for this season. I hope I'm wrong and catches a 2nd breathe.

Doesn't Claussen have an option left? If he does he might just get left down there...

I would think that Shackleford is the guy. I'm also thinking based on the Cormier deal that they don't expect Mercker back anytime soon.

I'm reasonably confident that there is a rule to the effect that if a player is removed from the 25 man roster, then he has to stay off the 25 man roster for 10 days or such. That's why they sent him down before the all-star break. His turn wasn't coming up for a while.

Possibly, but even if he is he'll be back next year.

Does Claussen have enough time for another "rehab" start? He does not seem to be ready and with Lohse available, I'm thinking they'll just keep him in AAA for another week, assuming they can.

Still no word on the roster move?

That is true unless there is an injury to a player who has the same position.

13 pitchers, 3 catchers?

LOL- That sounds like Feb 22, in Sarasota!

Just my opinion, but I think we'll eventually see Mercker moved to the 60 day DL, retroactive to his last appearance. That move clears a spot on the 40 man roster.
