What a job beating out the infield single there to continue the hitting streak!!!

Now they took the hit away and are looking at it again.

Now it looks like they added it back to the scoreboard.

I thought it was interesting that the crowd booed when he got the hit. I thought "St Louis fans are the best in baseball" and all the talk about how much they respect the game. Then they boo someone that is making a run at history?

They were going back and forth between fielders choice and hit.
Gameday now has it ruled as a hit and ESPN has said it is now ruled a hit.

That was one of those judgement calls which makes me glad I am not an official scorer. Tough call - and if they guy ruled it a FC or error - and Utley goes on to start another streak....

What are they supposed to do, clap? He hasn't made history yet and it's pretty standard protocol to boo the oponent, especially when you're getting rocked. I'm sure if he broke history with that hit, he would've been praised by the fans.

Don't forget when Griffey Jr. hit HR #500 at Busch, he received a standing ovation and the fan gave Grif the ball back. That's pretty classy to me.

I agree that the standing O for Griff was classy, but I do not think booing Chase was the right thing to do. Maybe that's just me, but if I were in Cincy and he got that hit, I'm not booing. I'm not clapping, I'm just like ... ehhh, that's kinda cool

Controversy has been avoided, and I'm glad.

The Phils explode for even more runs, and they're able to flip the batting order over again. Utley gets another plate appearance, and this time he singles cleanly into center field.

Barring a miraculous comeback by the Cardinals, Utley will finish the game 2-6 with two singles.

Yeah I saw that and agree. You know people would question that 1st hit forever and ever. Glad to see it was clear cut. Not that it matters. No way he's breaking Joe D's streak. 35 is impressive though.

Maybe it was the official scorer who was being booed?

It never really hit me how impressive it was to get a hit in 35 consecutive games until someone said the other day that Chase Utley had a hit in every game he played in the month of July. Wow. That ain't easy.

Makes Joe D's streak look even more unbelievable. That's like getting a hit in every game for 2 months.

Then after a one game 0-fer, Joe D went on another significant streak. Not sure of the length, but I'm fairly sure it was several.

Also, as a 19 year old in the Pacific Coast League in 1933, Joe D had a 61 game hitting streak.

I do get enjoyment out of watching the feller play the base ball game, yes.

Didn't DiMaggio have a questionable (scorer's) call go his way around game 30 or so?
