Cornucopia of transactions

If any further proof was needed that the G.M. never sleeps, note the following roster moves today:

Ryan Franklin acquired from the Phillies, should be in uniform tonight

Kent Mercker activated from the DL

Gary Majewski placed on the 15-day DL with "inflammation" in his right shoulder

Jason Standridge placed on the 15-day DL with back spasms

Matt Belisle sent to Louisville on a rehab assignment

Brandon Claussen returned from his rehab assignment but NOT reinstated

What does it mean that Clausen was not reinstated?

He wasn't activated from the DL.

Basically he is done for the year.

Without options, wouldn't he have to be released?

Or put on the 60 day DL.

He's not going to AAA. He's just going to stay on the DL.

You're missing the point. He joined the Reds in the clubhouse. He was not brought of the DL.

I know a little about how the process works, but I'm not an expert by all means. I can't imagine though that he is basically done and he goes home. Don't the Reds have to either reinstate him or take him off the 40 man roster and DFA him?

Ok, I got it. Sorry for the confusion and thanks for the clarification.

I think it is incredible that the Reds have 4 Lefty relievers in the pen.

can anyone give me an update on grant balfour? can we expect any help from him?
this was asked on "down on the farm" but at last check got no response.

A player can stay on the 15 day DL indefinitely. (Or in this case until Sept. 1)

With enough DL visits, the FO will have a built-in excuse when the team fails. Yippee!

I haven't heard any excuses for poor performance from the FO yet, why would they start now?

I feel much more comfortable with Mercker and Franklin than Majewski.

We're going to throw a bunch of relievers against the wall, and see who sticks!

Gary Majewski placed on the 15-day DL with "inflammation" in his right shoulder.....

Yeah right. I've noticed, all year, the bullpen tends to be "injured," after a horrible outing.

Try multiple horrible outings.

Personally, I doubt we will see anything from him this season and if we do, I doubt it will be until the rosters expand and then it will be very little if any at all. But that is just my two cents.

I have seen a lot of inflammation when he pitches.

Majewski took some time off at the beginning of May, but never went on the DL. He came back from not having pitched in 5 days to throw very well for the remainder of May and most of June. You can attribute it to Robinson overusing Maj, but maybe also that Maj was part of the WBC.

I think he'll be okay for us after resting his arm for a week or two. There's an article from June in the Washington Post which talks about how Maj was hitting 97 on the gun after his time off, but the most important thing he found back after some rest was his control. Hopefully he gets back to that form for our stretch run in September.

Yeah, it's quite the coincidence isn't it? I think everyone here knew he'd be going to the DL today after yesterday's performance. I just wonder why Narron or Krivsky couldn't have DL'd him before yesterday's debacle.

Do you think he'd be on the DL now if we had a rested bullpen yesterday and he didn't come back to pitch the 8th? Probably not.

It's just sad that we paid so much for so little.

"when the team fails" Why would a "fan" make a comment like that.

I assume you saw yesterday's game, and last week's series against the Dodgers.

Other teams have improved themselves for the final stretch. The Reds haven't.

Nothing personal. Just the facts.

I think that was a previous FO and owner that you're talking about.

I haven't heard any excuses from the current regime, in fact, I think it's amazing to see them try to rebuild a team during the year, in the middle of a pennant race. That's something you just don't see all the time- all action and no excuses.

I am relishing in the fact that I've gotten flamed over the past few weeks and now some of you are eating (well maybe nibbling) on some crow.

are rotation is in bad shape, our offense is slumping bad, and we got a ass load of relievers who are garbage (well bray and eddie are ok)

yeah, playoff roster for sho huh!:bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang:
