Maybe the bullpen can get Lohse a win. I have to say I have been pleasantly suprised with him. Now is not the time for the league to figure him out.

Argh. The Reds get the Cards' best.

I'm pulling for 2 out of 3 and then head home for the Pirates... where I think then we will be able to take over 1st!

Can't win if you don't score.3 Runs in 3 games Vs the vaunted Pirates staff

I think the key game is Arroyo's. He has to have a good outing to get his Mojo back. I saw an article that Arroyo has been pretty nasty in September, going back to 03,04,05. Let's hope he finds the magic again.

The real key is for Bronson to rething his pitch location to lefties. The slider that comes down and in to lefties seem to go out of the park pretty well since must left handed batters like the ball low.

While the Pirates' staff may not be vaunted, Maholm and Snell are both quality young pitchers, who at this point are throwing better than almost anyone in our rotation not named Harang.

Arroyo needs to start throwing more fastballs to lefties. His curveball breaks right into a lefty's wheelhouse, and it seems like he throws them 70% of the time. Now is the time for Bronson to make a counter-adjustment. If the Reds are going to make the playoffs, he must the pitcher from April and May. Lately, he's been nothing more than a right-handed Eric Milton.

Arroyo has to throw the curve to make his fastball effective against lefties. He has been having an awful time locating, however.

If you track Arroyo's pitches, you will find he throws about 50% fastballs and 25% curveballs to both righties and lefties. He goes to that slider about 25% of the time versus righties. Versus lefties he splits the last 25% between his slider and the change. He may vary a bit from game to game, but that is pretty much how he has pitched since I started watching him with the Red Sox back in '04.

Again, as with most pitchers, his problem has been location and not really what he has been throwing.

After the St. Louis series the Pirates come to Cincinnati. Here might be some music to some of our ears...

Pirates Road Record: 14-45

Sorry to say that the Reds have absolutely no chance to sweep and I know this for a fact. The reason is because my family and I will be attending the Thursday game and my boys and I are just plain bad luck to the Reds. They always lose when we go (except Opening Day 2005). Bet a million on a Reds loss Thursday because it will pay off. Sorry. On a brighter note...I got 12th row tickets behind the dugout for the game...

You sweep, we all do the happy dance and hello 1st place.
You win 2 of 3 and misson accomplished.
You lose 2 out of 3, not good but you only lose a game.
Whatever you do don't get swept.

St. Louis Post-Dispatch says they are considering running Weaver out there over Suppan on Thursday, based on his successful last start against the Reds.
