And, some good news...

Edwin Encarnacion has been named National League player of the week for Aug. 7-13.

Encarnacion hit .440 (11-25) with a double, four home runs and eight RBIs last week. His 24 total bases and .960 slugging percentage last week led the NL. He currently has a career-high 10-game hitting streak.

Encarnacion is the second Reds player to take P.O.W. honors this year. Brandon Phillips did it April 17-23.

POY?

POW?

I think Jerry had him as a POW earlier in the season, but he's escaped the gulag since then.

I think you need to rename the thread title. With apologies to John McCain, I think Edwin is now a P.O.W. instead of a P.O.Y.

What a week for EdE. Even his outs were excellent at bats.
Not to mention 3 or 4 incredible plays on the field - balls that only a few other guys in the league get to.
Great job Edwin.

This is Edwin's way of daring Jerry Narron not to play him.

My thinking exactly.
Congrats, Edwin

The kid needed to "take" the job. Looks to me like he has done that. Good for Eddie. Nice honor to boot.

I'd say he took the job when he OPS'd over 1.000 in spring training and hit .288/.387/.550 in April, and in the meantime displayed incredible range at third base.

Might as well get over it. Does nothing positive at this point. I think he has grown tremendously since then, both physically and mentally. The fact that he has come back to "take" the job with the way he has been playing speaks volumes about Edwin Encarnacion and I think he will be better for it, down the road.

He'll probably be sitting the bench this week. We don't need him playing too hard.
