Two things about Stubbs game last night.

1. He hit an inside the park home run. He hit a deep ball to the wall. The outfielder dove for it and the ball bounced off his face. Drew scored easily as the outfielder layed out there.

2. He collided with Michael McKennon late in the game going after a ball. Both players left with a concussion, and McKennon has a leg bruise as well.

From today's Billings Gazette:

"The most dramatic play of the night occurred in the seventh inning when McKennon and Stubbs collided violently in the left-center field gap chasing a ball off the bat of Luis Rivera.

The two outfielders were sprinting towards the sharply hit ball, but before either could get there, they crushed each other.

Both players laid in the outfield for several minutes with teammates and coaches attending to them before walking off on their own power.

The initial word was that each player had a concussion. McKennon was said to have a bruised left leg.

"It was a bad collision, obviously," Burleson said. "They both called for the ball at the same time, but they didn't hear each other."

It wasn't immediately known if either will be in the lineup tonight."

Gives me chills thinking about it knowing how these young kids go all out to make plays. Lucky for us it wasn't worse.

Maybe he stubbed his head?

Yeah I know it doesn't work.

Concussions are contagious for the Mustangs. Anthony Esquer, the Mustangs catcher got one last night on a play at the plate.

Stubbs and McKennon are out at least 3 more games.

Concussiosn suck, but this isn't hockey. A little rest and they'll be allright. As long as it was an incident like Mike Cameron had.. ouch!

Did that guy get an inside the park HR too? If so, I wonder when the last time was there were two in the same game at any pro level.

No matter how anyone slices it, Stubbs has had one disappointing summer.

I'm not directing this completely at you, but this irks me a bit. No matter how anyone slices it, people on this board are impatient - especially when it comes to prospects. I understand Stubbs hasn't had a great year, I won't argue that. But it hasn't been Matt Bush horrendous either.

My point is people said last year Homer had an abismal year, and that he wasn't ready for Sarrasota and needed to repeat Dayton again. Well, low and behold he's had one helluva season, among the best for any minor league pitcher in the game.

You don't know what Stubbs is doing. He could be hurt, he could be slowly transitioning to wood bats, he could be pressing, he could have been asked to make adjustments to his swing, etc. There is just no way of telling. Its been 1 half season of ball, coming off a good season of college ball. He could be tired.

Lets see what he does next year before writing him off. This season means essentially nothing in terms of his long term development. If he shows more of the same next year, then I'd start to worry. But for now, lets all take a deep breathe and relax.

We do know this, he was a super prospect in college an absolute stud and leader of Texas. I think the Reds know exactly what theyre doing with this kid. He is a top flight athelete.
