Whooping me in Strat this week, that's all I know... he owns me so far this season.

Norris Hopper - that has to be one of the great baseball names of recent memory.

Looks like he's had a decent year at Chattanooga and Louisville. Not much pop in the bat, but he hits for average.

from Marc:

Chris Michalak's grandmother passed away last night at age 102, so he's headed to the bereavement list for a minimum of three days. He's still expected to start Wednesday.

In the meantime, the Reds have recalled the International League's leading hitter (.349), Norris Hopper, from Louisville. He should be here in time to play today. Mike Burns was designated for assignment to make room on the 40-man.

Chris my thoughts are with you and your family and friends

Michalak's not gone- he's just deactivated.

I can see Mike Burns becoming a Nashville Sound (MIL) very soon.

This is Hopper's Year of En Fuego. But the best comparison is still an African-American version of famed journeyman fifth-outfielder Jason Tyner. He'd never become a prospect because his whole ability-to-hit-.300 thing bloomed a little later. 2006 is the first year he's made it to AAA, and he's done what he's done after getting demoted back to AA in April due to struggles of the lumber variety.

Great. Want to see Hopper. Love his AAA performance.

But he's probably here until Wednesday when the Reds will need a fifth starter. Trader Wayne will likely get one for cash or a player to be named.

8/20/06 Placed LHP Eddie Guardado on the 15-day disabled list; reinstated RHP Matt Belisle from the 15-day disabled list; placed LHP Chris Michalak on the bereavement list; purchased the contract of IF/OF Norris Hopper from Triple-A Louisville; designated RHP Mike Burns for assignment.

I guess Wayne's visit to Louisville wasn't to promote Mike Burns....

Based on Boston's bullpen effort this weekend, I wouldn't be surprised to see Burns end up in beantown.

For Redszone general info.

Shelby is about 30 miles from our hometown and a county over. The hospital there was and still is much better than the only one in our home county. The last I knew Norris still lived in Shelby. Todd and him have always been on opposing teams in the past. (Little League All star teams,High School, Legion, and Minors.)

Wouldn't shock me to see Freel out of the lineup in the next few days now that they have someone to put out there that doesn't leave a black hole in the OF.

He was created in a lab using DNA from Dennis Hopper and Chuck Norris. ;)
