Paramount Pictures, which recently fired Tom Cruise, is reportedly gunning to have Brad Pitt replace him in the next instalment of Mission Impossible.

But Pitt apparently would not play Cruise's Ethan Hunt character.

"They're set on Brad taking over as a gutsy new head operative who puts together his own unique team of specialists," an anonymous insider told Britain's Daily Mail newspaper.

Ethan Hunt would be retired off to some sunny isle with his new wife, according to the report.

Paramount is offering Pitt $52 million for the flick, which would make Angelina Jolie's beau the highest paid actor in history, according to the reports.

If true, it would actually make me wanna go see a M:I movie again. I grew tired of Tom Cruise's ego trip long ago and how he singlehandedly destroyed the very concept of the basic story with his "I am the star, we don't need a team" BS. Pitt's far more down to earth and has always shown a willingness to share the spotlight with his co-stars.

Still, $52 million? That has to be for a multi-picture deal.

Maybe they can make the movies like the TV series instead of a lame Bond ripoff.

Yeah I don't think so either ;)

Why continue this horrible series? Cant hollywood come up with new ideas and fresh stories?

The Bourne Identity (and Supremecy) are a much better movie series than Mission Impossible anyways...

I'm holding out for the "My Three Sons" remake. Only instead of an aircraft designer, Steve is a martial arts master. And his sons each have a different superpower, which leads to confusion and chaos in Bryant Park. And Uncle Charley would become Aunt Charlee and be played by Kim Basinger.

Think I should keep holding out for this? ;)

To muddle things up I'd even bet on Mike returning with Uncle Bud from the mysterious town they didn't want to leave when Steve moved to Bryant Park

Bub, Bud.... it's all the same, a comic foil to the deadpanned dad, a man who shined is such films as Double Indemnity leading a brood of the squarest kids in the 60's... yet he still let Chip marry Polly?

I just remember Ernie and Dodie in the later episodes.

Ernie Johnson Jr.Yeah, I was just thinking that it was funny how the My Three Sons cast names included many of the same names as present/past Braves announcers...
