View Full Version : Postseason predictions

10-01-2006, 07:46 PM
No Reds, but October baseball = awes.

Feel free to change/augment this if there is another way people prefer to do this. I'm going to pick what I think will happen, not necessarily what I want to...though there's surprisingly not much disparity between the two for me this year. My predictions are in bold.

Oakland Athletics (93-69) vs. Minnesota Twins (96-66), starts Tuesday at 1 pm
Minnesota in 5
Detroit Tigers (95-67) vs. New York Yankees (97-65), starts Tuesday at 8 pm
New York in 5

St. Louis Cardinals (83-78) vs. San Diego Padres (88-74), starts Tuesday at 4 pm
San Diego in 4
Los Angeles Dodgers (88-74) vs. New York Mets (97-65), starts Wednesday at 4 pm
Los Angeles in 4

New York over Minnesota in 7

San Diego over Los Angeles in 5

New York over San Diego in 5

Didn't realize I thought so poorly of the Mets' chances til now.

Please predict!

Thanks for starting this thread on Reds Live so that everyone can participate.

I'll take Min over Oak in 4, Det over NYY in 5, Min over Det in 6. Assumes Johnson is out for NYY I haven't heard an update on his status. If Johnson Pitches NYY beats Det in 5 and Min beats NYY in 7.

In the NL SD over STL in 5, LA over the Pedroless mets in 4. LA over Sd in 6.

In the series Min over LA.

ALCS MVP Morneau.
WS MVP Johan Santana.

I could really care less since the Reds aren't in it. I am not even going to watch a playoff game this year and refuse to watch another one until my beloved Reds are back where they belong; however I am glad that the Braves aren't in the postseason this year.

10-01-2006, 08:21 PM
Assumes Johnson is out for NYY I haven't heard an update on his status.

He is scheduled to pitch the third game against Detroit. if his disc does not improve by then, he will be taken off the postseason roster and replaced with another pitcher, probably karstens.

10-01-2006, 08:28 PM
Oakland over Minnesota
Detroit over New York

ALCS-Oakland over Detroit

San Diego over St. Louis
Los Angeles over NY Mets

NLCS-Los Angeles over San Diego

I'll be happy as long as the stupid Cardinals don't make the WS.

10-01-2006, 08:45 PM
Cards over Pades
Mets over Dodgers

A's over Twinkies
NY over Tigers

A's over Mets

10-01-2006, 08:49 PM

Kirk Gibson says

I suck at predictions.

ALCS - Detroit over Minnesota - The Tigers tanked (like the White Sox did last year) at the right time.

NLCS - Mets over Padres. Mike Piazza is sad.

WS - First time since '86 - Mets in 6. I think they'll rally around Pedro.

10-01-2006, 08:54 PM

Yankees over Detroit in 3
Oakland over Minnesota in 5

Yankees over Oakland in 6

LA over Mets in 5
SD over STL in 4

LA over Mets in 5
SD over STL in 4

SD over LA in 7

NY over SD in 5

Yankees are just TOO loaded. I hate it, won't watch, but they'll win.

I agree. If the Yankees can't win it all this year with that team, they should probably just stop trying.

10-01-2006, 10:25 PM
Minnesota over Oakland
Yanks over Tigers

Yanks over Twins

Cards over Padres
Dodgers over Mets (sorry, no Pedro)

Dodgers over Cards

Yanks over Dodgers

Going into the 2004 post season it looked like it could be one of the most exciting in quite some time. And outside of the actual Series, it was. This looks like it could be one of the most boring post seasons in recent memory. I'll watch simply because I always do, but nothing about this post season seems compelling to me. I'm not that excited about it at all.

10-01-2006, 10:28 PM
New York over Detroit in 4
Oakland over Minnesota in 5

Oakland over New York in 6

LA over New York in 3
San Diego over St. Louis in 3

San Diego over LA in 7

World Series:
Oakland over San Diego in 4

2007: Reds over Twins

10-01-2006, 10:39 PM
I think the yankees will lose a total of 3 games this post-season. That offensive lineup they have is ridiculous. They have no peer in the post season this year.

10-01-2006, 10:45 PM
Yankees over Tigers
Athletics over Twins

Padres over Cardinals
Dodgers over Mets

Yankees over Athletics

Dodgers over Padres

World Series
Yankees over Dodgers

The Yankees lineup is just about as close to a perfectly built machine as you'll ever find. Taking pitches, working the count, taking walks, boosting the OBP, etc. is the Yankee way, and I wouldn't be surprised if they wear down each opposing pitching staff with each series.

10-02-2006, 01:51 AM
Yanks over Tigers in 4
A's over Twins in 5
A's over Yanks in 6

Padres over Cards in 3
Dodgers over Mets in 5
Padres over Dodgers in 6

A's over Padres in 6

Certainly the money I put down in Jan in Vegas on the A's winning the AL & the World Series has zero impact on my opinions :)

10-02-2006, 11:44 AM
Cardinals over the Padres
Mets over the Dodgers

Yankees over the Tigers
Twins over the Athletics

Mets over the Cardinals
Twins over the Yankees

Twins win the World Series

10-02-2006, 12:01 PM
I predict I will not be watching any postseason games unless the A's get to the World Series!!!

10-02-2006, 12:04 PM
Apathy from me.

And the Yankees will win it all, losing less than 5 games in the process.

Red Leader
10-02-2006, 12:12 PM
NY Yankees over DET in 4.
MIN over OAK in 5.

NY Yankees over MIN in 6.

LA over NY Mets in 5.
SD over StL in 4.

LA over SD in 7.

NY Yankees over LA in 5.

And I'm with MWM, I'll watch, because I always do, but I'm not really interested in any teams going forward. That could change if the NYY lost and SD made it to the WS.

10-02-2006, 12:37 PM

And NESPN just died a bit knowing they would have to sing the praises of another region that doesnt include NY and Boston.... I LOVE IT.

Cards vs Pads
Everyone is playing and the Cards have Carpenter for Game 1. Call me a synic but I think the Cards rally around Edmonds and win this one and it goes the distance.
Cards in 5

Hottest team in baseball vs the best team in baseball. Mets rested while LA had to fight. I think the rust will show early and hurt the Mets. Also Nomar and Grady Little exorcise the demons.
Dodgers in 4

Yankees vs Tigers
As much as I want to say the kitten turns back into the Big Cat it was earlier I cant. The Yanks have built a lineup that cannot be matched by the Tigers.
Yankees in 3

Oakland vs Minnesota
Beane Ball has yet to win a playoff series, and I dont expect this to be any different.
Minnesota in 4

Cards vs LA
The True LA team dominants, St. Louis gets a win out of Carpenter to avoid the sweep. And LaRussa continues to show why he is one of the most over rated managers in baseball as he gets outmanaged by Grady Little.
LA Dodgers in 5

Yankees vs Minnesota
One word: Santana. Great pitching beats great hitting. Twins have more quality of SP, Johnson and Mussina show their age and the Twins win.
Minnesota in 6

World Series:
Minnesota vs LA
Dodgers wheel out Kirk Gibson on two bad knees vs Jack Morris and Frank Viola... wait nm. Minnesota wins in 7, great tv throughout and the usual suspects will get blamed but Minnesota is the better team. Watch for Radke be an unsung hero in this, should this happen.

NLCS: Nomar Garciaparra
ALCS: Johan Santana
WS: Johan Santana
