We have a 3rd baseman. A very good one.

Part of me wouldn't mind Boone at 2B.

Not sure how the rest of you feel about this, but a DP combo of Phillips and Boone isn't the worst thing we could field.

Boone would just be another backup infielder who can't hit. This team is already overloaded with backup infielders who can't hit.

Yeah we need to go get one that can hit and can't field.

Or how about one that can do both?

He may not be such a bad middle infileder/bench player if Aurilia isn't retained.

The Reds have no need for AB, as much as I do like him.

Can he pitch?

The real questions is ...

Could TB handle it ... if AB returned to the Reds? ;)

Please. After all the work I put in to make the team Boone-free.
Don't forget the pain. The free swinging. The lousy throws. And most of all:

That's JimBo. I can see why you wouldn't recognize him since it's not leather.

WOW. He looks a lot younger, and better put-together.

Still, that was dumb of me. I was blinded by the suit I guess.

We've seen him play up the middle before. Very slow pivot.

A simple "no" from me.

Unless he's comfortable only coming off the bench.

Could you platoon him at 1B with Hat?

Why jam up 1B with more people when it would be better to see Votto and Hat platoon until Votto takes over the position all on his own?

Not to mention there is the possibility of Jr ending up there. Not to mention if RA is back again (doubt it) he can play there. Dunn and Javy are also outside 1B possibilities.

Either way you slice it, we don't need another 1B option, IMO.

I don't think I've ever seen a platoon of two hitters who hit from the same side. Votto won't be playing until Hat is gone or sent to the bench. It doesn't make sense to platoon them. Dunn won't be playing 1B. Javy isn't an option to do anything but pinch-hit. If you don't find a RH 1B (RA is gone IMO), that makes Hat the "everyday" guy. Something I surely don't want to see. I'm not necessarily asking for Aaron Boone but I think the Reds need to find someone to play 1B against LHP next season.

Oppps.....they do both bat from the left side, don't they? I was incorrect then and you are right.

Still...I'm not interested in AB.

I'm really not either. It wouldn't bother me to see Votto get the everyday job with Hat as a backup 1B/pinch-hitter. That won't happen though.

The only reason you might want to do that is to keep Hatteberg fresh. Most of the pitchers who are starters are right handers so he would get the vast majority of starts at first. You could keep Votto as a pinch hitter and to give Hatteberg a blow about every 4th or 5th time he'd normally play. That way you give Votto some major league experience and keep Hatteberg fresh. But I doubt Wayne would want to use a roster spot on a guy like Votto and you know darn well Narron wouldn't play him.

Little did we know, JimBo had a white belt on in that picture. ;)

Eduardo Perez. Cheap option with some pop. He and Hat would make a good pair of PH after Votto wins the job in spring training. Perez could play LF or RF resting Griffey or Dunn against Lefties as well.

I think Boone is done.

Funny to recall that, at the time we traded Aaron Boone away, Reds fans were outraged. How can we trade away all of our good players?

Maybe it wasn't the franchise-killing move everyone thought.
