Didn't know if anyone was interested or not in a thread today. The A's went down in order in the first against Boof Bonser. For some reason everytime I hear the name Boof Bonser I think of the old Batman TV show.

Two and a half down, still no score.

Three over and no score. Another pitchers duel. But what else would you expect from these two teams?

No score after four in this Titanic struggle.

RBI single for Kendall makes it 2-0 A's.

Is it just the gamecast or is the umpire's strikezone incredibly wide?

A's still lead 2-0 going to bottom of the sixth. The Twinks better get something going or it's going to be a quick series.

The Twinkies are alive. Back to back homers by Cuddyer and Morneau have tied this game at 2.

Wow. Kotsay hits an inside the park homer and the A's are now up 4-2.

Torii Hunter dove for the liner and missed it. He gambled and lost.

The announcers are gently ripping Hunter for it. They are saying it's a mistake you just can't make in the postseason.

Did I just see the Athletics bring D'Angelo Jimenez as a defensive replacement at 2B?!

Is it just me or were they making way too big a deal out of the Milton Bradley coffee incident? That wasn't worth harping on for a full inning.

What's up in the Dodgers / Mets game. Anyone watching that. According to Yahoo both Jeff Kent and J.D. Drew were out at home on the same play. An unassisted catcher double play?

Red Leader
10-04-2006, 04:38 PM
Was it Martin singled to RF. Kent thrown out by RFer at home. Catcher threw to 2B to get Martin, Martin safe, 2B/SS threw back to home, J.D. Drew out at home?

Don't see that often, nonetheless.

Kotsay's inside the park homer and LoDuca's double tag at the plate are two of the coolest plays I've seen in the playoffs in years.

Carlos Delgado and Cliff Floyd just reminded everyone on the planet that the Mets are still an incredibly dangerous team despite their starting pitching situation.

Mets pull John Maine after 4.1 IP with only one run allowed (runners on first and second). Ex-Red Pedro Feliciano comes in. Willie Randolph's channeling Captain Hook.

What was the progression of the play? I didn't get to see it. Were both runners around 3rd and heading for home and he tagged both of them, or was it like I described a couple posts above?

They were on first and second and the ball went into the RF corner both were around third when the relay man made his throw. Kent was meat at the plate and then the pitcher alerted LoDuca that Drew was coming and he got caught too.

Why Drew got waived around and why he didn't retreat when LoDuca got snagged are mysteries that may never be solved.

It's been a barn-burner. Glad to hear you made it home in one piece.

If the first five playoff games this season are any sort of indicator, this is going to be a fantastic post-season to watch.

Mets lead 6-5 in the top of the 9th with two outs, but the Dodgers have a runner on 2nd and Nomar Garciaparra at the plate. Count is currently 0-2.

I am enjoying the hell out of this game. It'd almost be proper if it went extras.

Nomar works the count to 2-2 before striking out on a pitch in the dirt to give the Mets a 1-0 series lead. That was a fantastic game, and I wonder how much different it'd have been if Kent and/or Drew didn't screw up on the bases in the early innings.

Long rain delay for tonight's game. It looks like an hour to an hour and a half of rain is coming so they are not even going to start the game for now.

Which game?

The Aaron Boone game. 2003 ALCS, Game 7, eighth inning.

This is regular AM radio, by the way, if anybody else wants to listen.

I'm watching a replay of a Mysteries of the Dead show on PBS about a Bulgarian ex-pat dissident hunted down and killed in London by a man with....

an umbrella gun that fires poison pellets.

I need one of those. The umbrella gun that is--not a Bulgarian dissident or a Communist bounty hunter.

Lucky for you, this country gives you the right to bear arms.

We skipped all the way to Boone, was was decidedly anti-climactic. Now we are listening to the Marlins beat the Cubs.

This night is fun!

Man, listening to this game, knowing that the marlins went on to beat the Yankees -- their second championships in what, their first ten years of existence -- it's a wonder they don't have more fans. I mean, not a wonder that they don't, I understand why they don't...but a wonder that that old dude and others managed to destroy things as absolutely as they did. This should NOT be a franchise that has a hard time developing fans.

Bartman just happened. And that's the thing...this is remembered as the CUBS COLLAPSE. I bet some people don't even know who the other team was.

I respect what the Marlins are doing now and they will be a force to be reckoned with very soon. But from a sheer fan standpoint, not a strictly baseball one...it's just amazing.

No need to risk injury with a wet field in the playoffs.

Good decision.

The history of the Florida Marlins, should the team survive long enough for such a book to be written, should be titled "How To Make Nothing From Everything." For the sequel, they can write about the Devil Rays. There's no reason baseball in Florida couldn't have thrived, but it's been bungled at every conceivable level.
