2-0 Padres in the first inning. Padres had the bases loaded with 2 outs and Barfield grounded out after swinging at 2 pitches out of the zone.

2-0 Padres after 1/2 inning.

Bochy deserves to be fired if the Padres lose this game. Today is Jake Peavy's regurarly scheduled day to pitch, easy decision right? Nope. Bochy instead decides to start 40-year old Woody Williams.

For San Diego to win the series, Peavy and Woody will both have to pitch. It does not matter which order they go in.

In the 1st inning Carpenter throws 35 pitches and Williams throws 29 pitches.

I would've went Peavy in this game and then a combination of WW/David Wells/Young tomorrow.

As I type this Williams blows the lead. Great move Bochy. Williams pitched around crappy Encarnacion to get to Belliard. There goes any hope of the Padres winning this series. Carpenter will settle down now.

The only smart move was to pitch Peavy in this game. When you are facing elimination you can't even worry about tomorrow's game. If you don't win tonight then obviously there won't be a tomorrow. If it was short rest maybe you could understand it but on full rest it is crazy not to pitch Peavy.

Precisely. Stave off elimination. This isn't the regular season anymore.

Exactly.

This move by Bochy not to pitch Peavy is equally as stupid as when Grady Little left Pedro in too long back in the 2003 ALCS. Little was fired for that, and IMO Bochy needs to be fired after they lose this game.

Williams looks like Paul Wilson out there. He's going to get clobbered.

There's a baseball game on? I thought the Tigers won the World Series?

Just caught a glance - Woody Williams is 40?

Wow.

Also, on NBC, the Chargers are in their Powder Blues tonight. Best. Unis. Ever.

Dave Roberts leads off the 5th with a single and then he steals 2B, unfortunately, the Cards ump calls him out.

Cards are helping Williams out. 5 of the last 6 batters have been out swinging on the first pitch.

The reports of Woody Williams demise were greatly exaggerated.
