Look closely at those four teams -

A's
Tigers
Cards
Mets

Does any one of those strike fear in anyone?

The Tigers. They're reasonably loaded.

I'd say Tigers too.

They have a bullpen a little bit like the '90 Reds which makes for a 6 inning game. And if their starters are on, they can be mighty tough.

The Mets have parts and pieces, but I'm not sure they entirely fit together.

You know whose game I really think is dull and overrated? Jason Kendall's.

The guy hasn't been worth a damn for years.

Its like he left Pittsburgh and went on a hunger strike. Is he on a reverse roid?

In 2001-2002 he sucked; he got good again in 2003-2004, and has sucked again since coming to Oakland (or sucked relative to his payroll, at any rate). Plus his speed vanished.

So in the last six seasons he's only been good a third of the time.

Harden has not pitched in over 2 weeks. He immediately gives up a walk and 2 singles. 1-0 Tigers.

A catcher who gets on base all the time? He's not worth what he's making, but he's still a pain if you're rooting for the other team.

By the way, what happened to the inflated radar gun readings? I was really enjoying that bit.

He's been the lame version of Aaron Boone since his move to Oakland--and he really isn't a stolen base threat anymore. He used to be good, but his game has gone in the tank hard.

I've never seen a ball hit that hard to left by a lefthander. There's going to be radioactive fallout as a result of that hit.

And on cue, my brother-in-law, a Mets' fan, calls to tell me to watch it on replay.

OnBaseMachine

Maine gives up a 2-run double to the worst hitter in baseball. Delgado's inability to field a routine groundball, plus the ump's horrible strikezone has gotten the deadbirds back into this game.

The same pitch that was called ball 3 on JuanE, was just called strike three on Carpenter. I have no clue where the strikezone is tonight.

3-2 Mets after 1-1/2 inning. Two unearned runs charged to Delgado.

Weaver's been every bit the pitcher Glavine's been the last month of the season. And even Suppan can cue it up when he wants to.

If the Cards win tonight, they'll win the series. They've got some serious secret weapons in Kinney, Wainwright, and Thompson.

What?!? That ball clearly hit the top of the fence.

The Mets are WAAAAAAAY better than the Cards, but the Cards actually have a chance in this series due to the injuries to Pedro and El Duque. But the Mets are clearly the superior team no matter the result of this series.

OnBaseMachine

Who called that 0-2 pitch on Speizo anyway? LaRussa? Mota made him looked foolish on two splitters at the ankles, then he throws a fastball which Speizo ripped HR distance but foul. Logic says the next pitch should be a splitter in the dirt, instead the genius throws a fastball right down the middle, and now the game is tied.

It probably won't even matter, though, because the Tigers will likely roll over whoever wins this series. They have twice as many good starters and twice as many good relievers as either of them, and their offense is right up there with them, if not deeper, as well.
