Thanks to an exceptionally gracious Redszoner, I had the privilege of heading to Detroit for last night's Game One of the 2006 World Series. My digital camera is probably hating life from an overloaded workout last night, but I did take over 150 pictures of the entire ballpark experience prior to and during the game.

Here's a few I thought some fellow Redszoners might enjoy (they may take a few minutes to load because there's quite a few, and you may have to refresh once or twice in case some of the pics time out while loading) ...

I love seeing Sean in the World Series. As much as I hated the horrible contract that hurt this team for so long, I will always been a fan of the man.

When the first couple shots opened I thought they were photo shopped. Very pristine images. How nice would it be to see an atmosphere like that around GAB someday.... someday soon.

Quite a different atmosphere there than back in May when I took in an Indians/Tigers game. Back then it was definately much more similar to GABP. I think winning takes care of an atmosphere like that.

Cyclone...did you make it up to the Montgomery Inn out in CF? That was a definite surprise to me seeing that there.

I'm so happy for Sean, and he hit in a run tonight! I miss him.

Someday soon I hope GABP has an atmosphere like that. Someday soon ...

I definitely noticed the Montgomery Inn out in the outfield, and I gave a half-hearted effort to try to wander over to it. Apparently you have to walk through some building in the stadium to get to it, and when I walked up a flight of stairs I came out on a level directly above the restaurant rather than the level it was actually on. Below is the only picture I think I have in which you can see the Montgomery Inn. It's below the massive Verizon Wireless "It's the Network" ad that drapes the building out beyond right-center field.

The exterior of the Tigers park makes GAB look rather plain. The powers that be did not have much imagination with GAB in my opinion.

So, where is the picture where the guy in the first picture is laying on the ground after getting run over?

Great pictures!

Wow! What a lot of pictures. You certainly had to get Major League Baseball's express written consent for retransmision of any rebroadcast, retransmission or other use of this game. I hope you did or the Commisioner's Office maybe coming to get you. ;)

Great pics! Comerica looks like a really nice ballpark! You are a lucky person to be able to attend a World Series game.

Comerica Park is fantastic. Probably the second nicest ballpark I've been in, behind Oriole Park.

They really went all-out to give it a little bit of character as you walked around: they've got several full-service restaraunt/bars inside the park, a mall-style "food court" with tons of different offerings, a New Orleans-type daiquiri bar, and even a giant farris-wheel for the kids.

I'm happy for the Tigers and their fans.

Great pics, 'clone. I'm insanely jealous!

Yes, Comerica and Pittsburgh blow Cincinnati away (and St. Louis too for that matter). The exterior of Comerica is the best I think I have seen with the large statues and such just making it look like a fun place to go. That and inside they have more entertainment than a shopping mall. I didn't see it in the pictures but there's a Tiger themed carousel inside a family area. They have more food options than your local food network channel. There's also a Frische's restaurant underneath the Montgomery Inn out in centerfield, and that's not even mentioning all the different specialty restaurants/concession stands in the kid's area and the main concourse. Finally, out in the kid's area they have bushes trimmed to look like baseball players which is a really cool look (not sure if they are still out there in October though).

Also, the area outside the park is nicer than GABP as they have the Lions stadium right across the street and several nice little restaurants/bars.

I'll try to throw up some of my pics of some of the other attractions if I have a little time later. It's really a great experience and I was hoping to make it back there this fall but just ran out of weekends. It's definately on the agenda for spring again though.
