As the offseason is officially here i thought i would try to summarize what we have and what we need for 2007:

C - Valentin vs some righties. Ross or Larue vs lefties/some righties

1B - Hatteberg vs righties. ( Votto likely starts 2007 in AAA )
? vs lefties

2b/SS - Phillips

SS/2b - ?. All we have now are Olmedo & B Harris.

3B - EE

Utility IF - Castro

LF - Dunn

CF - Denorfia or Freel

RF - Griffey for ~100-120 games with Deno/Freel for the rest

25th man - who knows. I see us carrying 13 position players and 12 pitchers again next year.

SP - 1.Arroyo 2.Harang 3.Lohse 4.Milton 5.EZ/Claussen/Belisle
( Bailey starts 2007 in AAA )

RP - Bray, Majik, Coffey, Cormier, Belisle ( if he doesn't start ), Shackelford?, Standbridge?

Needs:
1. SS or 2B. It is anyone's guess who this will be.
2. a right handed platoon partner at 1B. This will likely a free agent such as resigning Aurillia or signing someone like Eduardo Perez/Craig Wilson/Phil Nevin ( I don't see us spending a lot of money here ).
3. better pitching. A #3 starter would be nice. Bailey MIGHT be that for 2008.
Someone who can pitch the 9th would also be nice. Bray & Coffey did not warm up to that role in 2006.

Trade bait ( If you are easily scared or nauseated don't look ):
1. Ross or LaRue
2. Lohse or Milton
3. ? Cormier
4. Type B and below prospects. I would be shocked and upset if Wayne traded any of the few A prospects we have ( Votto, Bailey, Bruce, etc )

I would say the Reds need about +125-150 runs.

Creating a 150 run swing in the run differential will be quite the task.

Creating a 150 run swing in the run differential will be quite the task.most likely impossible without a serious dose of good fortune.

Wayne will have to remake a sizable chunk of the roster to get close.

Wayne will have to remake a sizable chunk of the roster to get close.and seeing as he remade a sizeable portion of the roster in 06 without making any progress in that area, I for one am skeptical. However, being able to do that without a serious infusion of talent from your minor league system(which the Reds don't have), is just not going to happen.
