Per Rotoworld

Angels agreed to terms with RHP Justin Speier, who had been with the Blue Jays, on a four-year contract.

The deal is believed to be worth $18 million. Speier is the first Type A free agent to officially change teams this winter. The Blue Jays will get the Angels' first-round pick -- assuming that the Angels don't sign another Type A free agent who rates higher than Speier -- and a supplemental first-rounder. The 33-year-old Speier is getting a four-year deal despite some elbow issues that cost him a month in the second half. He was as good of a bet for 2007 as any free agent reliever available this winter, but he might not provide much value in 2009-10.

I was thinking, "I thought their pen was loaded," then I remembered J.C. Romero.

Speier was one of the main guys I wanted Krivsky to get this offseason. Four years at slightly over $4 million per year is a reasonable price, one that the Reds could have afforded.

A 4 year deal for a 34 year old relief pitcher is a little scary, though.

He'd still be younger at the end of the contract than Stanton. However, southern California is probably more attractive than southern Ohio...At least I've been told.

And that's why you trade him after year number 2 of that contract.

Think the Angels might be shopping Scott Shields, who could possibly close for some teams?
