Congrats to them! It's a great accomplishment for late-round guys like them to make the 40-man.

Any chance Medlock or Shafer make the team? I think Shafer should especially get a chance.

I think Shafer makes it. Possibley Medlock. No chance for Dickerson IMO

So Shafer, Dickerson and Medlock are added to the 40 man but Homer Bailey still hasnt been? Thats a bit strange.

Bailey still doesn't have the service time requiring him to be on the 40 man roster, so he's protected. I think he's got another year yet (unless he's called up next year, then he has to go on the 40 man - and the 25 man - roster).

I understand, but there are only 38 current guys on the Reds 40 man roster and honestly the odds of Dickerson seeing Cincinnati are about 5% next season, where Bailey is probably at about 85%. He will be put on the 40 man roster before ST, I am just curious as to why the wait.....

Guys are put on the 40 man at this time to protect them from Rule V. Why waste a spot now.

You never add a guy to the 40 unless he HAS to be added to protect him or is being called up.

Keep Bailey off the 40 man (and off the Arb clock) as long as possible.

The likes of Norris Hopper & Bubby Crosby can be quickly jettisoned to make room for Homer.

Besides - at least according to the official website, the Reds only have a 32 man roster right now.

And that doesn't count when Brandon Claussen will go back on the 60 day DL.

Click on 40 man roster, it's up to 38. The active roster is showing 32 for whatever reason.

so-- does that mean that Paul Janisch is exposed to Rule V?

No -- the new CBA gives him an extra year

I assume Medlock and Shafer will both begin the year in Louisville unless they make the big club out of ST. I'd love to see one or both of them force their way onto the 25 man roster during ST.

hmph - I thought that was what I clicked on. Should have realized 32 was way low.

Regardless there are still half a dozen guys on there the Reds could dump and not lose a thing (Rey Olmedo, Brandon Watson, Bubby Crosby, Miguel Perez, Phil Dumatrait etc).

No need to worry about not having a roster spot open for Homer.

Shafer and Medlock probably could've pitched on the big league club last year and given better innings than a lot of the crap that floated through the bullpen.

I still don't understand why Medlock got moved out of the rotation. Did anyone ever find a straight answer on that?

He was throwing 95-96 in Arizona. I figure he is one of those short guys that goes into the pen and gets extra pop on his number 1. He will be toast by 30(much like Danny Graves), but the ride may be fun.........
