Sorry if this has been posted, but I didn't notice it.

I was just wondering about the Type A and Type B free agents. What kind of stats does a player have to put up to be considered a Type A or lower?

Also, what is the number of draft picks received for each type?

Per MLB (http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20061024&content_id=1722211&vkey=ps2006news&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb)

Free agent compensation
• Type C free agent classification is eliminated.
• Teams that lose a Type B free agent will now earn a sandwich pick instead of taking selection from club that signed player.
• The pool of Type A players shrinks from top 30 percent of each position to top 20 percent, while the Type B player pool will be reduced from the top 31-50 percent of players to 21-40 percent.

-------

As to the question of what constitutes the "top 30%" (for example) for each position, that is decided by an equation that weighs the players' various statistics over the course of the previous year (or is it that last three years? I can't recall).
