I recently discovered the wonders of MySpace. Does anyone here log on regularly? Good experiences, bad? I found three people I haven't spoken to in YEARS. Pretty cool.

Yeah I get on regularly. It's a good and fun way to keep in touch with friends. Even though I don't do it too much, it's also a good way to get in touch with new people and make new friends.

Haha -- she afraid some of those MySpace "hotties" (emphasis on the quote-unquote) are going to come after you?

I use MySpace and Facebook, but only really as a means of keeping up with friends from school -- since I went to high school, college, and law school in three different regions of the country. I don't get into it much beyond that.

Four of my top 6 friends live in different states. Myspace is a great way for me to keep in touch with friends that live all over.

I joined myspace earlier this year because I have a friend who distributes his band's music on it.

My law school discourages people from using it or facebook at all, as apparently some employers are using it to determine whether the applicants are serious people. That sounds a tad paranoid, but it does make me careful about what I allow other people to post on my page (i.e. comments).

You can also set it up so that strangers can't look at your profile.

I found this out the hard way, after my little cousins (who don't even have accounts) confronted me about my cursing and drinking :help:

Friendster was all the rage back in the day, that was the first site to really explore that concept and it was mind-blowing at the time...it also had a great feature that myspace doesn't, you could see HOW you were connected to people, so you would do things like look up your best friend from kindergarten and find out that she knows someone who knows your old boss in England. It really drove home the six degrees concept. I can't get into myspace really...I'm getting old I think.

They mentioned that to us when I was a 3L last year.

Although with the market being the way it is nobody can turn anything down, I don't think I'd ever want to work for an employer that was so controlling that they made hiring decisions based on such minute and idiotic criteria.

If anyone is interested (wink, wink) you can search for myspace users by e-mail address. Mine is warrior_sanders@yahoo.com

Not personally but a friend of mine is going through a divorce right now due largely to his wife talking to people she "hasn't spoken to in years", which then led to seing people she "hasn't seen in years", which led to sleeping with people she "hasn't slept with in years".

Ohhh man!! That's weird. I'm getting messages from people "I haven't spoken to in years" and they want to see me since they haven't "seen me in years"... How bizarre. Good thing they are all far, far away.

I use it predominately for music and to keep up with the lesser known bands I follow, and a few other friends that live around the country/world.

It's great for that purpose, and I post some of my music on there for kicks.

Just don't use your full name in the profile options and no one can find you unless you send them a request...or of course set it to private.

Just as in real life, it has more than it's share of weirdos and freaks. :)

I have both a myspace and facebook account. I don't really use them much as I'm not much of a socialite, but it's nice to "be out there" in case somebody is looking for you.

Unfortunately, myspace has pretty much jumped the shark as the advertising accounts have pretty much taken over.

Me and my friend made a fake myspace for a teacher at the school. The myspace had almost 200 friends all from my school. Almost everybody believed it was actually the teacher then some one found out it was us and we were in the principal's office a few days after that.

MySpace is the largest repository of bad code on the planet. My Wife and all my kids have an account. And we monitor them carefully.

That said, I hate the place. Tons of porn and predators. lots of ways to redirect to other sites, and phishing scams are common. Kids, KIDS posting pornographic images of themselves. I had to get my son to trim down his "friends" list as many of them were just a tad old for a fourteen year old boy.

I do not like MySpace at all. But my wife says she has a handle on monitoring our kids online. So i let it go.

Properly moderated, MySpace can be fairly harmless. Make sure all kids profiles are set to private. Make sure you are a "friend" of theirs with your own MySpace account. Here is the kicker. make them use firefox and make it so it stores the password. They have no right to privacy when it comes to the internet in your house. We check our kids sites about once a week, more if the kid is in an unexplained rotten mood. We also go over their friend list. If they have friends we don't know, they get kicked.

No one in our house has one.

(Though it wouldn't surprise me if I went home tonight & found my 5 year old had figured out how to create & use one...)

To be honest, there aren't that many people that my wife or I want to keep in touch with. If we do, we keep in touch the old-fashioned way: Email. ;) Neither of us have jobs that place a premium on cyber-networking. One of our goals as a married couple is to never ever ever attend even a single high school reunion.

I'll also admit that we've both checked out facebook during searches for employees. If you're going to plaster a picture of yourself falling over drunk on your facebook page, we're probably a little less interested in interviewing you.

Yes, you can. You can't see their profile, but it does give you their default picture, and some details. That is unless the person doesn't have a private profile. Then everyone can look at their stuff.
