Baseball: Chunichi acquire former Reds pitcher Valentine
NAGOYA, Jan. 25 KYODO
The Chunichi Dragons have acquired former Cincinnati Reds right-hander Joe Valentine, the Central League club said Thursday.
Valentine picked up a signing fee of 6 million yen on a one-year deal worth 30 million yen. He will wear the No. 4 jersey.

The Reds bullpen rejects are all ending up in Japan. Valentine, Esteban Yan and Jason Johnson are all pitching in Japan this year.

30 million yen sounds really impressive until you run it through a currency converter and it comes out to around $250,000. Beats what he would've made in AAA though.

Wasn't this the main piece to the Jose Guillen deal with Oakland. Luckily for us "Moneyball" also sent us Aaron Harang!

I don't recall that because as I recall, Harrang went right into the rotation whereas Valentine only pitched in two games for us that year.

Maybe now posters on RZ will remember Valentine is in Japan and Valentin plays here for us!

Do the Reds receive money from Chunichi as a result of this transaction?

20 yen, $5, something?

I doubt it, Valentine was last with the Astros

Damn, we let a useless bullpen guy go when we could have sold him.

Honestly I'm with you. I remember Harang being valued sure, but he was the #2 part. Valentine was to be the 'man', or at least was the one with the most upside supposedly.

Valentine's too young to be on the Reds Bullpen, he's not collecting Social Security yet.

Plus, he plays his music too loud, squeals his tires on the street and doesn't take care of his lawn.

Also, refuses to wear Sansabelts.
