As REDS fans know it does not matter who is in 1st place until the end of the year. The wildcard, however, throws a bit of a curveball into that statement. Anyhow the last three years have seen the St. Louis Cardinals dominate holding 1st place in the NL Central (they have also won the division each of the last 3 years). The team who has been in 1st place the most behind St. Louis might be a surprise to some (glass is 1/2 full! :)).

There are approximately 183 days in a regular season. This amounts to 549 days over the last 3 years. Sometimes two or more teams will be tied for first, so the total of all teams will be greater than 549 days.

Team: 2004 days - 2005 days - 2006 days
St. L: 112 - 168 - 144
REDS: 28 - 3 - 23
HOUS: 28 - 4 - 16
CHIC: 15 - 1 -3
MILW: 3 - 6 - 9
PITT: 1 - 0 - 0

Total Days in 1st Last 3 Years
St. L: 424 days
REDS: 54 days
HOUS: 48 days
CHIC: 19 days
MILW: 18 days
PITT: 1 day

wow....only one day for pirates.
I mean winning a couple to start the season would get you a few days in first at least.

And that 1 day was April 5, 2004... after winning their first game and being tied with Chicago & Milwaukee. Ouch!
