Has anyone else seen these? I think they should just call them the Pittsburgh Bloody Marys.

Captain Kidd and his crew were on the high seas when they were attacked by Blackbeard, their arch enemy.

The first shot by Blackbeard's gunners took off Kidd's forward mast. The second shot splintered the center mast, and the third disintegrated the rear mast.

Panic stricken, one of Kidd's men asked what they should do.

"We have no choice but to surrender," replied the pirate. "He's using weapons of mast destruction."

I prefer these myself....especially the pistol. That could come in handy to deal with various on-field situations. The parrot would be a distraction, however.

The Steelers after the Bengals pound on them at Heinz field...

Not sure that the Bengals should even mention that after the death blow they received the last week of the season. ;-)

I like them! Keep in mind that you are looking at some random guy wearing a jersey, which doesn't allow you to see it in full...as in pants, cleats...ya know, the way they'll look on the field.

Anyway, I like them. I think once you seem them in full gear, you might like them.

I suppose next year, we can look forward to the Cubs or Brewers putting out a red version of their jerseys, just to avoid being the only team in the division that doesn't have a red jersey.

Same here -- why be just another team using the white/gray combination for home and away?

Plus, I have a suspicion these unis will be a big hit with the kids.

It isn't like this is the first time uniform sins have been committed on the Three Rivers.

I honestly think this is just an attempt to get the fans excited about SOMETHING. They introduced a second mascot last year. There's no reason to pull out a new fuzzy dude and "unique" uniforms when you're a team that's doing well. (and yes, I'm well aware of the implications of that statement regarding my own team...)

That dude modeling the uni looks like a giant ketchup bottle. Maybe the Pirates can have ketchup bottle races like the sausage races in Milwaukee.

I don't know if they are any worse than Atlanta's alternate unis.

Johnny Footstool

They should pair those jerseys with yellow pants, then go make balloon animals for kids in the children's ward.

I don't know if they are any worse than Atlanta's alternate unis.

Atlanta's are pretty ugly too.

If I were running the Pirates, I'd go with some Roberto Clemente era goodness as far as the uniform goes. Ditch the red, ditch the goofy looking pirate with the polka dot bandana, and trade the "Steeler" yellow for the muted "gold" the Pirates used in the early 70s.

Late '60s, early '70s = the golden age of NL uniforms?

Red Leader
02-05-2007, 01:12 PM
I like the Red jerseys.

They had to do something. Their uniforms were very boring the last 10 years, at least.

Red is a very Pirate-friendly color.

RANDY IN INDY

I really like the current "Vest style" Pirate uniform, white at home, grey on the road, with black sleeves and black caps. I think it looks very sharp.

For my money, the classic Pittsburgh that Yachtzee shows above should've received Dodgers/Yankees uni treatment for longetivity, never to be dismissed.

AND THEN I SCROLLED DOWN AND SAW THE WHITE PANTS.
