MESA, Ariz. -- Oft-injured Kerry Wood is out again -- this time because of a flub in a hot tub.

The Chicago Cubs pitcher is not expected to throw off the mound for a few days after he slipped this week getting out of a hot tub at home. Wood landed on his stomach and chest.

"It was just a little spill," Wood said Thursday. "I didn't think anything of it. Nothing's wrong. It's just going to be a few extra days. My arm feels great. My body feels good."

Wood said he probably would not have thrown off the mound until Friday had he not gotten hurt. He participated in most drills on Thursday when pitchers and catchers worked out for the first time.

Bothered by an injured right shoulder the past three seasons, Wood is being converted to a reliever after being limited to four starts last year.

It's a close race between him and Griffey.

It's a close race between him and Griffey.

A race that will never truly be over until one of them has to drag their arm to the finish line while avoiding stubbing their toe, stomach cramps and neck stiffness and the other will have to have both legs reattached to finish.

At least Griffey had a good run and his bad luck started in his 30's.

Wood has been doomed from near the beginning.

John Smoltz once was placed on the 15 day DL because he burned himself while ironing his shirt while wearing it

geez, these home related incidents such as Griffey and now Wood are often hilarious. Joe Wilkins who caught at Ohio State, once had to sit out for a couple of weeks after he pinched a nerve in his neck gelling his hair.

Different sport, but Grant Hill ranks right up there with the both of them too.

It's another sign of spring, first then groundhogs sees his shadow, then Wood or Prior get hurt.

Darn. I had Memorial Day.

I can only imagine what Doc Kremcheck would say if he was the Cubs Medical Director.

i saw him on the news this afternoon...he appears to be fine and was laughing about the incident...this doesn't seem to be a big deal, even considering it's kerry wood

Interesting read from NYT compliments of Lance McCallister:

My Right Arm (http://www.nytimes.com/2007/06/03/sports/playmagazine/0603play-wood.html?pagewanted=1&_r=2&adxnnl=1&adxnnlx=1181073707-45rK3wto0ysxv4f8wFASKg)

Something to keep in mind with the recent promotion of Homer. Wood was another Texas fireballer who wore #34. I was at that game his rookie year when he struck out 20. It was absolutely amazing. The breaking balls were out of this world. Somebody on the 'Stros (Jack Howell?) swung at one that hit him. That's how deceptive his curve was and how much it moved. I've been to many sold out games, games where incredible and crazy things have happened, but there was nothing like the energy in that half full stadium. It was about the 4th inning when people started discussing what the strikeout record was and if he had a chance, he was that dominant.
