It's still early, but I'm interested in making the trek to Cincinnati this year for the annual RedsZone gathering. Anything in the works?

Red Leader
02-12-2007, 05:11 PM
Not anymore. ;)

I had talked to a couple people about it (most out of towners) and they didn't appear to be too gung ho about paying for a plane ticket to Cincinnati to see this year's team. Can't blame them.

I'm usually pretty busy with my kids activities in the summer, but most likely could find a weekend night to go see a game.

Ltlabner

I'd be interested in attending a gathering.

Are they as feisty in person as they can be in the anonimity of cyberspace?

BRM

I make a trip back to southern Indiana every summer anyway. I'd be interested in attending if the RedsZone gathering is in the same timeframe.

I don't know if there's gonna be one with White Death and all. We could be all dead by tommorrow. There's no hope.

All seriousness now, I think the best ones are the one's you can make up at the last minute. Like, if Kitty didn't buy season tickets, she could have had the RedsZone gathering in the Cheap Seats. Cyclone sat in scouts seats.

Or, just toss an announcement here. For instance say the following -

Hey, I'm headed down to the April 5th Businesspersons Special - anybody want to hook up and talk baseball or have soda/beer at the Machine room?

It's cool like that.

That way creek isn't stuck with a bunch of tickets.

I don't have that kind of drawing power. I was hoping to hitch my wagon to an existing planned event.

I have never attended any RZ gathering because I am afraid folks will find out that I am (if you can believe it) actually a very boring person.

But I'll give it a shot this year. My schedule is a little tough though- I work a lot of Saturdays- but if there is one on a weekend day at a bar downtown, then I would try to make it.

creek14
02-12-2007, 05:59 PM
Well since it appears that I might actually live through the summer, I would be willing to pull something together, but I really don't want to do the *maybe I'll come* ticket thing.

I'm at work <gasp> and probably will be until late Tuesday, but on Wed, I'll set up a poll with all the home weekend games and we can come up with a date.

That work for you all?

Red Leader

creek - see if there are any Saturday night games. There probably aren't many of them, and I'd imagine those would be the easiest on everyone's schedules. Saturday night games and Sunday games are the easiest on my schedule for sure. Because drinking for a Sunday day game isn't as fun on Monday, a Sat night game might be best. Anyone else prefer a Sat night game?

GIK
02-12-2007, 06:08 PM
Saturday night would be the only way I could make it from SE Michigan - and I'm guessing it'd be a good night for most people who have to drive an hour or two (or more).

That's pretty much a given. Someone should convince him to buy a Tivo in the meantime so he doesn't have to miss Wheel of Fortune (his main sticking point last time).

June would be ideal, but the tickets will probably be hard to come by, since the opponents are CLE, TEX, and STL. The Cardinals game on June 30 would be great.

And, I'd prefer weekday games. But, don't plan around me. Maybe we can do two. One during the weekend and one during the week.

Creek. I haven't been to one of these (I'd love to, but...I'm far away).
However, I did follow the "poll" process last year and from what I gather, the whole thing didn't work out that well.

My 2 cents. If someone is going to organize this, well...THEY are the boss. They pick the week and games and pretty much set the schedule. Everyone else can either come along for the ride or stay home.

Democracy works for a lot of things. Event planning ISN'T one of them.

That one last year really worked out well, didn't it Kitty?

I think there's only one day game on Saturday so there's a lot of choices.

And for those of you who want to go during the week, there's always a few of us who can get together on short notice. Just let us know when you'll be in town and we'll see what we can do.

As someone who has had to plan such events in the past. I agree. Event planning is a dictatorship. Tell them when, where, what. Once they get there, distract them with bread and circuses.

I wouldn't mind coming down and meeting some redszoners for a Reds game, but I'm booked through July 26th, going through what Caveat went through last summer. Maybe if I swing some tickets for a game later in the season, I'll post a message to see if anyone is game.

Bail was finally made. But I don't plan'em.... I just attend them. :mooner:

But I'm hoping that something will be set up this year. They have always been fun in the past. It's always fun to meet "out of towners". The two-game affair in 2005 was a HUGE success.

If no one else shows up, then let me know the date(s) Johnny and I'd love to get together with you for a game.

If creek does the planning then it is sure to be a huge success. She works for the government and can set up Homeland Security for the event.

I want to come. I'm just doubtful once again this year. I still owe Alfred a trip to see the White Sox play. Not sure I can do both.

HOWEVER, once the timing is decided ... I agree with the dictatorship idea. A poll to gauge interest is one thing, but once that's out of the way ...

Good luck, Yachtzee.

Did someone mention beer?

If so, I'm good to go. Being local, travel and lodging aren't a problem.

My only risk is that "RZ gathering" is written in pencil on the family calendar and is prone to being written over with "visit Aunt Maude".

Writing "Redszone gathering" on the calendar goes over about as well as writing "Bachelor party" on the calendar as well, even though it is written in pencil.

I stayed in that Travelodge in Newport a few times- mostly back in the early '90's and never had a problem. Then We stayed there one night about 3 years ago. I awoke late a t night to alot of yelling outside, and I looked outside- there were probably 25 or 30 people outside practically in some kind of gangfight- it looked to me like it was kind of lined up racially. Never stayed there again, but I have parked in there lot for a few bucks for day games a couple of times.

A couple years ago, we had ~20. One night we sat in the first couple of rows way down the right field line. The other, we sat out in the sun/moon deck.

But most of the time, we sat on the bar stools at GameDay. :beerme:

Just a heads up. There's the Hilton and the Netherland. I think something happened and this hotel split in two or exchanged names or something. I ended up at the wrong one going to a symposium last month. They're almost on the same block though and right near fountain square.

Redsland

Unless something has changed very recently, then the only Hilton in Downtown is the Netherland. Hilton acquired it a few years back, when it was formerly known as the Omni Netherland. Hilton then divested itself of the Terrace.

There's also a Hilton near the airport, and from what I hear, another will soon serve 90 days in an LA jail cell. ;)

You will likely be around a whole crowd of people heading that way anyway. Safety in numbers. There is a Papa Johns a block north and then a right turn away and a bar called Rockin Robins that has good wings. I've walked to both and never saw anything creepy after the games.

I need to get the tickets before 20May, cause I will be out of town the rest of the month for work and I want to have time to mail the tickets.

So, how much do you want to spend?

Yeah, I just don't want to price anyone out of a game.

So we're all in for Diamond seats, right? :beerme:

I'll go check seat locations and prices and get back to you.

Creek, maybe we should just wait till before the game(s) to get the tickets. Sure, it may cut down on our drinking time but I doubt there will be a problem getting tickets together wherever. Plus it saves you the trouble of getting the money in advance and ordering tickets. Just a thought.

Chip. That's great for you locals, but us out of towners would like a little certainty before committing to the trip.
I'm really trying to jiggle my travel plans around to make this trip and it would totally suck if I couldn't get tix or not be able to sit with the REDSZONERS and get to know you guys.

A possible solution could be to get a block of tix as "advance sales"...those willing to put the money in up front. I'll pay for mine, if I can't make it and no one else shows up to take my seats...well tough. We buy advance tickets for everything like that these days (airlines, theater, etc.).

Set a deadline, state the cost...get advance (no refund) tickets for all those who want (count me in).

Just my 2c..as I said before, this is NOT a democracy and what Creek says goes.

Just to remind you guys - I am only one person. Not everyone can sit next to me. However, since Karin (LGJ) will not be around this year I will have one seat open next to me. Zombie on one side and _________ on the other.

Tickets are going fast - I think we need to go with $22 per game and then if we end up with cheaper seats, I'll refund your money.

If you want to send a check, PM me and I'll give you my name and address.

If you want to use paypal, I'm sr71fan@aol.com.

If you want me to mail your tickets, I'll need your name and address.

If you want me to leave them at will call, I'll need your name as it appears on your favorite form of ID.

If you just want me to hand you your tickets, then you're going to have to meet me pregame for a beverage.

Let me know how many tickets you want for Friday and how many you want for Saturday.

There are a lot of *ifs* there, so let me know if you have any questions.

I will need your money NLT than 18 May.

I have to go clean out my PM box now.

Yeah, I don't know if we can make that work - depends on the total of tickets, I guess. Once TeamDunn bought 9 for a mini gathering and they asked "are you sure you have that many kids...". But I'd be happy to give it a shot.

And it took the 1 adult at $22 and 9 family members at $11.

Some people want them mailed to them, so if that's the case, on-line ordering won't work. :(

I'll be there for Saturday, although I won't be sitting with all the redszoners. I've got tickets in Club 4192. I say in these for the Saturday White Sox game last year and they are awesome.

I'm thinking about coming up from Lexington for both nights. Money's a bit of an issue, but would like to stay someplace decent and I don't have any body to go with me.

Anyone interested in splitting a double for a couple of nights? I could manage my half of a $150/a night rate if I decide to go. I don't smoke, probably wouldn't drink more than a beer or two a night (if that) and rarely hear the voices any more. :D

If anyone is interested, PM me.

Question: Hilton Netherland or Embassy Suites?

The Embassy looks like its across the river...is it walking distance? Is it safe to walk? (I won't be renting a car).

I have just enough Hilton points for a stay at the Embassy, but not quite enough for the Netherland.

Both are nice. Both are within walking distance, with the Suites probably being a little closer. Either way, you'll be walking with a crowd, so it's safe. Probably would be safe even without the crowd.
